- Really enjoyed our stay here. Very friendly staff. Very clean rooms. Free wi-fi. Big breakfast and lots of choice. Big room. Pretty much everything I would want from a short stay in a city. Is close (walkable) to sugar loaf. Copa beach less than 5 mins walk. Ipanema a bit further, but taxi's very cheap. Would stay here again. « less

- I stayed two nights at the Intercontinental and two nights at this hotel, so I could easily check out both areas of Rio. The Best Western is located on a busy side street just two blocks from the world famous Copacabana. the only problem is that it is located on the opposite end of the busy, hopping area of Copacabana. In fact, it is very close to the famous Copacabana Palace Hotel, which oddly isn't located in the cool area of Copa. It was fine for two nights, and there was a grocery store just a couple of doors down, which was conveneint for water and fruit.
I thought for sure I was going to hear all of the busy, street noise from my hotel, but they checked me into a quiet room (507) as promised. The hotel booked me on a Favela Tour, which I highly recommend to anyone wanting a real Brazilian cultural expereince. You won't find displayed brochures at the hotels for this tour, but if you ask, they will book it. This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. The hotel also booked a one day trip to Buzios for me. It's an all day, super long day trip, but well worth it to see another part of Brazil and to take in some snorkeling in the pretty water. Oh, and there are cocktails too! A lot of cocktails! (Included with the tour price).
This hotel worked for me for my short stay, I felt safe and the staff were helpful, so no complaints. The BW is very standard and fine for a few days of fun in the sun. « less

- We traveled with 3 teenagers and a 7 year old. The location for walking at night is not good. red light district with everyone warning us to be careful and not walk at night. we had no trouble but it was worrisome to get so many warnings from staff, taxi drivers, tour operators ect. only 1 internet connection, pool very tiny. restaurant food very good. staff helpful. for buisness travel I would recomend but not to families « less

- The location is amazing, close to Copacabana beach. But the hotels is below standars. Old and dirty rooms. The frontdesk is very unpolite. At the time of checkout I got a bill for a missing towel and other stuff missing from the room. I ask the frontdesk to check my bags and incredible he did it!!
I was with my wife and small kid and had to wait and been inspected my bags was a horrible experience. Fnally they came with a story the towels were missplaced.
I never ever come back to that hotel.
Tehre are many other options in Copacabana for same price and lot better service. Even spend some 10 dollars more per night is valuable. « less

- My wife and I started our 10 day honeymoon in Brazil in Rio at this hotel. We knew ahead of time the hotel was just going to be a place for us to stay, and we were to wonder around finding things to do. First off, don't be scared by all the advice from people about how unsafe Rio is, its really not that bad of a place, just don't act stupid. The hotel was very plain which suited our expectations. For the most part the front desk would answer our questions regarding tourist information. The part that bothered us is everyone, literally is after your money. Like most tourist cities. The hotel charges you for everything they possibly can, including local and toll free calls from the hotel room, which we had no idea until the end of our stay after racking up a rather large bill. We were charged for 3 items from the mini fridge that we didn't consume. They did remove the items from our bill, but I felt as if they thought we were lying. Room service doesn't speak English, and they will hang up on you if you don't speak Portuguese. The rooftop pool is really small, but with the beach only 5 blocks away, it serves its purpose. The breakfast wasn't anything we were used to being from the U.S. We made the best of what was served. The coffee was very good.
Overall the best advice I can give is to avoid the Copacabana beach area all together and stay on the Ipanema Beach instead. It has everything Copa has but cleaner and much friendlier. It is several miles from this hotel, too far to walk. If we could do it over we would of stayed in the Ipanema area. This hotel is all the way on the end of Copa. If you want cheap and don't care much about really good service then stay at this hotel. If you get irritated easily by bad service then avoid this hotel. « less
