Overview
Location. Located in Victoria, B.C. on Vancouver Island, Humboldt House is nestled just outside the downtown core on a quiet, historic tree-lined street. Just a few minutes walk away are Victoria’s splendid restaurants and attractions. The Empress Hotel and Inner Harbour are two blocks away, and the Beacon Hill Park is one block from the inn. A stroll through the park will take guests to the ocean and breathtaking mountain views. The waters around Victoria are home to resident orca whales, which can be viewed between April and October. Guided hiking, cycling and wildlife adventure tours are available to discover Vancouver Island’s rugged beauty. Fishing charters offer some of the best salmon fishing anywhere.
Features. Built in 1893, Humboldt House has been authentically renovated to reflect the Victorian era. Horse-drawn carriages clip-clop past the inn, and church bells chime from a nearby historic church. The large windows of the house offer a peaceful view of neighboring St. Ann’s Academy and its apple orchard. Sherry and homemade sweets are offered in the parlour, a beautiful common room adorned with lavish furnishings and a charming grandfather clock. Guests are invited to warm up in front of a fire on cool winter days, and sample some fresh local fruit on warm summer days. There is also a well-stocked library. A special feature of Humboldt House is the gourmet champagne breakfast, tucked into a basket and delivered through a two-way pantry into the privacy of each room.
Guestrooms. Humboldt House offers a most unique getaway in each of its rooms. Large jetted tubs, wood-burning fireplaces and exquisite decor are found in each of the six guest suites. Champagne and homemade chocolate truffles upon arrival, goose-down comforters, a CD stereo, fresh flowers and candlelight are among the extra touches provided in every room.
Expert Tip. The Victoria Inner Harbour is the vibrant center of action in Victoria. Along the waterfront, there are many cafes, pubs and restaurants, street musicians, jugglers and artists, and the Victoria Harbour Ferries.
