- My girlfriend and I stayed here at the end of a two week cycling trip from Bordeaux. We arrived late in the day with our bikes, exhausted and in need of a place to park our bikes and pack them up for our return trip. The reception staff were immediately welcoming and helpful and made us feel right at home. The bikes were no problem at all for them and they accommodated our need for space to pack them up for our return trip without any issue. Our room was large, with an enormous comfortable bed and tea/coffee making facilities. Everything in the hotel is a little old fashioned and very classic French. The breakfast was copious and every single staff member was attentive and helpful. The location of the hotel was perfect, close to all the best parts of the city of Lyon. We would definitely stay here again. « less

- This was the largest hotel room I ever stayed in (though I have to confess that I mostly book thee stars hotels, sometimes four or two star hotels, but I never slept in five stars hotels like the Ritz Carlton). The room was large because I was upgraded from a normal room to a large room. I didn't ask for that, but staff (or manager?) told she just arranged it because there were enough rooms available. Well that's nice!
Hotel was stylish, had charm, and is really very nice. I really liked it here and would recommend it to everyone visiting Lyon. « less

- My husband chose this hotel from a list affiliated with his conference and I fell in love with it the minute I walked inside. The desk clerks were very welcoming and consistently helpful. They also spoke good English.
The first thing you notice about the hotel, apart from the plush, dark reds of the lounge and the carpet, is the old-fashioned elevator in the middle of a wide spiral staircase. You must close the iron gates before the elevator moves. It can be a bit of a hassle with luggage, but it's fun to use. The elevator itself is roomy with a small bench, glass walls, and a list of famous people who have used it.
We had a room at the end of the third floor that was spacious and bright with high ceilings. The furniture was old, but fit the decor of the room well. Everything was very clean. Packets of coffee and tea were provided next to the kettle and restocked every day. On the lower left hand corner of the mounted flat-screen TV was a clock, but you can only read it when the TV was on. They provided a minibar and fridge, but no safe.
Strangely, the bathroom had two doors (so you can be extra secure while taking a shower?). There was no shower curtain, which made keeping the bathroom dry impossible. A drain in the floor stopped giant puddles from forming. The toilet and bidet were in a separate space and could be closed off with a glass door.
The room was old and I could see cracks in the tile in the bathroom and cracks in the ceiling, but it didn't detract from the overall comfortable feel of the room. The air conditioner was a little weak at first so we asked the receptionist if it was broken. She told us to turn it down to zero and after that, it was fine. The room stayed cool. We didn't have much of a view: a tiny courtyard with walls covered in ivy. Still, the room was filled with sunlight and it was very quiet.
There were plenty of shops and cafés right outside the hotel on the rue de la Républic. It's an easy walk to the Bellecour Metro station and to Old Lyon (the Palais du Justice footbridge gets you across the river). A large carousel near the hotel in the Place de la République worked as a useful landmark for finding the hotel. « less

- My husband surprised me with a night here and it was wonderful. We were greeted by very friendly and funny staff who delighted to show us the LIFT! This is no ordinary lift, Robert De Niro has been in this lift. It's beautiful, as is the eccentric bar. If you want a plush over the top corporate designed hotel, this isn't for you. If you love the unusual and want a taste of original French Belle Époque you can't wish for a nicer hotel. The breakfast is fab too.
An Australian couple, we overheard in the lobby as we were checking out, were booking an extra night they loved it so much. I wished we could have too. « less

The staff is quite friendly and very helpful. The circa 1930 building has and old fashioned elevator which make the hotel somewhat quaint. « less
