- We just came back from Dolce Fregate with our 2 children (age 7 and 9 years). The location is superb, the hotel is old and they really have to renew this hotel because it is so poor, broken tiles, broken lifts and the worst thing is the toilet in the room: the urine smell does not leave! Even after cleaning it by my self. Well, let's tell someting about this hotel. The staff has not done any training in hotelbusiness. We arrived and as we booked through Vrij Uit (it is Dutch and it is from Thomas Cook) we had no cleaning in the room. This was promised bij Vrij Uit but Dolce Fregate refused this as this was not in the contract with them and Vrij Uit. Okay....after calling Vrij Uit I wanted to solve this problem. The marketing director talked with me and she could give me cleaning for 135 eurps per day (!!!) but of course we negotiated and we got the cleaning for 50 euros per day. Okay...the cleaning was: 12 minutes (and that for 50 euros). They did not clean! They just brought some new towels and organized the apartment a bit. The rooms are really old (we stayed in room 831, 2 rooms: 1 bedroom and 1 living room with sofa which can be made as a bed for the kids), little kitchenette with only: 2 spoons, 3 knifes, 3 plates!!! A small showerroom with a toilet with a very bad smell and a bathroom. We could not make our own breakfast with the kitchenequipment they supplied! After 3 times demanding more kitchenstuff, I stopped asking it. I went to the Carrefour and bought plastic stuff (plates, knifes, spoons). I really hated the urine smell in the apartment. The golf course is superb! So just like the other writer: play golf and leave the hotel. They really have to improve their service, update the rooms. Actually they have to close the hotel for a couple of months and renew it and get the staff some nice training. I want to mention: we are not the most difficult persons! But this was really very bad. We had a sandwich and a juice (sandwich 8 euros and fres juice 7 euros): the sandwich was so bad and old. so we even did not tried the hotel food as we heard bad stories about it. And oh, one other surprising thing was: you have to wash your feet in water before you jump in the pool (the pools are beautiful but crowded) but this water is laying for days and everybody has to put his feet in the same water! Dolce Fregate: please improve, if not: in 2 years this hotel would be a 1 star hotel! And that is a shame! And not to forget...the fitness: please do not go to the fittness. The equipment is 17 years old and no airco. You can not call it a fitness! You will loose your weight anyway over there by getting stressed about the service, the maintanance, the hygienic. « less

- We stayed 4 nights in early july 2010 - visiting from Denmark. We hoped for a luxery resort with great rooms, views, golf and food but were really dissapointed. The views and the golf were really great, but the rest were average to poor. The rooms were not luxureous, but clean and with a good view. We were woken every morning by loud maintenance on the fairway in front of the hotel and by the insanely loud frog "sound" from the pond in front of the hotel. 1½ person spoke (fair) english in the reception and in the golf club, but no one else understood even the simplest terms - eventhough more than ½ of the cars in the parking lot were non french. The breakfast was expensive and very poor (chairs with chewinggum on the armrest) and sluggish buffet and the expensive restaurant servered tough steaks and the other restaurant served raw (!) porc (in fact the bottom of the meat was burned, the top was crisp and the inside was completely raw). We play golf one day and got back at 3PM (slow round) to find that the restaurant was closed for lunch (eventhough lots of folks were eating lunch at that time). I tried the "Fitness room" once... No towels, very dirty, few and rediculously old machines and no AC. And when no one speaks English (and we are not fluent in french) to who and how are you going to complain? So find a place further east along the coast with better quality (should not be difficult), better food (samo), and better staff (samo). Save your self a lot of agony or if you insist on staying - play the great golf course and leave immediatly (and head for a restaurant because you will leave on an empty stomac). « less

- We stayed at the Dolce Fregate Resort for a week in early July. Travelling with two boys aged 7 and 9, we opted for a one bed family suite. A long walk from reception but worth it. Great space, master bedroom, seperate lounge where very comfortable sofa beds were made up for the boys each night. Little kitchenette including fridge. Good breakfast each day, great poolside lunch (try the bruschetta) and a choice of upscale 'a la carte' or buffet restaurant, both very enjoyable. The pool is large and no issue with availability of sun beds, and nobody 'putting down towels' at 6am thankfully..The golf course is nice, even though you can see it was affected by the terible early summer storms. Finally, nice helpful staff. We will be back! « less

- The Fregate Hotel in Bandol has it right. Not cheap, but if you can take advantage of one of their offers it can be reasonable. There are so many good things about the hotel. The spacious layout is fantastic, the golf course is one of the main attractions, the restaurant quality is second to none, and the vineyard next door is also unique. On this stay I did not take advantage of the golf course, but have played it several times in the past. Fantastic! There is an 18 hole championship course which is one of the most scenic I have played, with breathtaking views over the Med. There is also a nice little par 3 which can be fun as well.
All the staff are attentive and polite, and do their best to make your stay an enjoyable experience. English is spoken throughout.
The room is southern med style, with lots of tiles and terracotta, mixed with pastel colours. The pool facilities are excellent, although again I did not take advantage of them on this trip due to poor weather. Having taken business guests here in the past they said that it was one of the best experiences that they have had - high testimony indeed.
In summary this is a hotel I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone for a great break away, especially if you happen to be a golfer. « less
