- If you choose to stay in or near Fira on Santorini, you are likely interested in either the view of the caldera or being close to the shops and restaurants in town. If so, then this hotel is not a good option. If you just want a comfortable hotel then it would be ok.
The hotel is located just south of Fira, about a 10-minute walk to the edge of the scenic area which then continues for quite a ways. The location is quite unappealing, with vacant weedy lots on both sides of the hotel, a busy road directly in front of the hotel, and an old abandoned industrial site (really an eyesore) directly in the view line of the caldera some distance away.
The hotel itself is attractive. Our room (#9) was good-sized with a barrel-vault ceiling, very firm twin beds, small refrigerator, desk, luggage stand, built-in closet. The a.c. unit was quiet and effective. We had a small balcony oriented toward the caldera, but the traffic and unattractive view detracted from its appeal. There was free wifi throughout the hotel and a lobby computer with internet access.
The bathroom was small but attractive and adequate, with shower only (the usual hand-held variety with a wall bracket). There was little counter space.
The breakfast buffet was marginal – powdered orange juice and no fresh fruit, meat, cheese, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, but minimal baked items. Of the breakfast offerings we encountered on our six-island trip, this was one of the thinnest. Overall it was adequate, but not very good.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Overall we have mixed feelings about the Astir Thiri. Our recommendation would be to look for something more central, even if it doesn’t have a view. « less

- Our stay at Astir Thira Hotel was very comfortable with clean surroundings, helpful and friendly staff, beautiful pool area, and relaxed atmosphere. Staff were always available for our requests and answers to questions. Great breakfast and coffee to start our day on the beautiful, unique island, which we discovered more of by renting ATV's nearby. Highly recommend this hotel as we met some very nice, interesting travellers from all over the world during our 6 day stay. « less

- My friends and I stayed at Astir Thira for 4 nights recently and had nothing but nice things to say about our stay there. When we got to Santorini, we were met by their driver at the Port. We took the ferry from Athens. The driver was very nice and took our bags. He told us we came to Santorini at a perfect time. Not many people yet and the weather was perfect. When we got to the hotel, we were met by one of the sisters. The youngest one, I believe. We then when to our room and had a very nice view of the volcano. After getting changed we went downstairs and another sister was the one attending to the guests. We asked her where to go in Santorini. She told us to check out all the beaches there, the wine museum and tasting, and she also recommended restaurants and bars in Fira. She told us to go to Oia or Ia because the sky is so clear. So off we went. She called a taxi for us and also a taxi picked us up on our way back to the hotel. What I love about her is how cheerful she is and when we got back to the hotel, she asked us how Oia or Ia was and how much we paid the taxi driver. To those wondering, from Fira to Oia, it is `15 Euro but it's accessible by bus. I love the location of this hotel becasue it's about 5-10 minute walk from the bus stop where you can find local buses that will take to different parts ot places in Santorini. We took the bus the rest of our stay in Santorini. You can get a copy of the bus schedule at the info desk. It's also close to all the restaurants, shops, grocery, and bars in Fira.
The room we stayed at had plenty of room for us three and the shower was big and I love that they always have hot water. The room is cleaned everyday and you leave your key everytime you leave the hotel, which I think is a great idea because you could lose your key when you are wandering around all day.
For me, the most important thing when I'm visiting another country and I am staying in a hotel is how accessible and personable the staff are. And that what we found at Astir Thira Hotel. The cheerful sister always asks us how our day was and where we went. On out last night there, we told her we ate at Argo and went to one of the bars she recommended "Franco's". She noticed I was a bit tipsy and it was a bit late at night and always so cheerful, she was singing and dancing so she said to me "You are drunk and I am dancing." hahaha. She's really funny and I just love her personality.
Their driver took us to the Port to take the high-speed boat. He drove us at 9pm since we were set to leave at 10 pm. Their driver was really nice and asked us how our stay was. Then when we got to the port, he told us which gate to go to.
I highly recommend this hotel.
When I come back to Fira, Santorini, Greece, I will surely stay here again.
