Location. Directly across from Seven Mile Beach, the Sunshine Suites Resort enjoys a convenient location at Safehaven on Grand Cayman. Grand Cayman is one the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean, and one of the best areas for diving. Other recreational activities include golf, tennis, windsurfing, snorkeling, fishing and hiking. Georgetown, the capital city, is located just over five kilometers from the resort, and features shopping, dining and nightlife venues.
Features. The resort offers a 45-by-25-foot outdoor pool with a wading shelf for children and a poolside bar and grill, offering a lunch/dinner menu. Each morning the resort provides complimentary full breakfasts. Picnic areas with barbecue grills are provided for guests' use. Conference space and computer stations are available. Wireless Internet access is complimentary throughout the property, including in the business center. Safe-deposit boxes are located at the front desk, and the staff can assist with dry cleaning, tour planning, currency exchange and wedding services. Guests enjoy complimentary access to a nearby fitness center. Guest laundry facilities are available on site.

Guestrooms. The resort offers studios and one-bedroom suites with full kitchens, including refrigerators, microwave ovens, cooktops, toasters and coffeemakers. Wireless Internet access is complimentary. CD stereos and cable television with premium channels are provided in all accommodations.

Expert Tip. The Cayman Turtle Farm is the only farm of its kind in the world, replenishing the waters with endangered green sea turtles and providing the local market with turtle meat. Turtles range in size from six ounces to 600 pounds, and turtle dishes can be sampled at the snack bar and restaurant.

Sunshine Suites is a great hotel! I stayed there 2 nights before heading next door to the stay at the Ritz for a work conference. Staying at Sunshine Suites was a great experience and saved me SOO much money! The grounds were beautiful, staff was very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean and new.
When I checked in and my room wasn’t ready, they handed me 2 bottles of water and a beach towel. I changed and was ready to hang out till my room was ready. The staff was also very helpful when I needed to call and confirm my stingray city tour with Captain Dexter.
The room was perfectly nice with a small kitchenette and marble countertops. Having the refrigerator and microwave was great for heating up leftovers (and saving money on food). Also having utensils was nice for cutting fruit I bought at the grocery store.
There were some people around, but the hotel didn’t seem crowded at all. I usually got to breakfast when it first opened. There was plenty to choose from. I like to eat healthy and there was fresh fruit, yogurt, wheat toast, etc. They also had cereal, eggs, and other typical breakfast items. The free breakfast buffet was great since it didn’t cost anything and was quick. I spent both mornings eating my breakfast by the pool and couldn’t have been happier.
Yes, this hotel is not right on the beach, but it’s a very short walk to the beach and is great if you are not looking to pay beach front prices. And it turned out my room at the Ritz, which is a “beach front” hotel, was just as far from the beach as the Sunshine Suites, because the Ritz crosses over the road and most of the hotel rooms are on the back of the hotel. Search for the hotel on wikimapia.org and you can see a satellite image and how far back some of the rooms at the Ritz are.
Sure, the Sunshine Suites didn’t leave chocolates on my pillow at night and the beach towels they provided were a little small (try and get the yellow ones, they are bigger), but for all the money I saved by staying there, I couldn’t have been happier. If I am ever back down that way, I won’t hesitate to stay there again.
Oh, I also liked the Sunshine Grill- ate the fish tacos twice, and the hammocks on the hotel grounds were nice to relax in. (Even though the hammocks did disappear halfway through my stay- maybe they took them down because of the weather?)
I HIGHLY recommend this hotel! It’s right in the middle of seven mile beach. Not sure why trip advisor says it’s in Georgetown. Check sites like Orbitz for sales on this hotel. « less

This is the second time we've stayed at Sunshine Suites (the first was in April '07) and were as pleased with it this time as we were before! They have updated the room decor, changed out the TVs for flat screens, tile floor, updated bathrooms...an even better value than we'd experienced before. Cayman hotels are a good bit pricier than many other places, and Sunshine Suites is certainly the best value in Cayman. It is NOT a romantic hotel or the place to be if you are looking for night life or room service; however, it is...

- Affordable
- Clean and updated rooms, well maintained grounds
- Rooms are very quiet! We have a 21 month old and our neighbor said she never heard us once, even though he was up crying at midnight one evening. We are very picky about noise, and although our room was on the bottom floor right next to the pool, we were never once bothered by noise from the pool or the room above us.
- Bedding is new, soft and very comfortable. Husband has a bad back and slept great.
- Staff is friendly and will do their best to make you happy (thank you Michael at the front desk, you are always so pleasant and helpful!)
- Pool is on the smaller side, but with a beautiful beach right across the street why on earth would you spend your time lounging around there? It's kept clean and neet, and if you have children there is a perfect shallow area where they can play.
- Hotel offers beach chairs and towels which you can take across the street to the beach with you.
- Free wi-fi
- Perfectly manicured lawns where you can sit out in a chair or hammoc and enjoy the breeze if you get all the sun you can take at the beach.
- Kitchen...has the very basics you need for meal prep (a few pot/pans, cooking utensils, dishes, wine glasses, etc.)
- Continental Breakfast is wonderful and much more than you would expect! Ate there for five mornings in a row without getting sick of the selection.
- Pool-side restaurant is open-air (screened in), casual, and delish. It gives a very authentic island feel as compared to "fine-dining" at larger resorts.
- Some have complained about the walk to the beach...no need to worry, it's sooo easy! We were carrying a 21 month old, snorkel gear, towels, floaties, etc. and it took us less than 5 minutes to walk across to the beach. You have to cross one two-lane road which can be busy at times, but all the drivers are so friendly they will just stop and let you cross!
- The only negative thing I have to say about the hotel, is that there is nowhere convenient to hang wet swimming things to let them dry...no clothes line in the bathroom or anything like that. We just used the hangers out of the closet and hung things on the shower bar.

Overall, this is a lovely, clean, quiet, updated, relaxing, and very unassuming hotel offering excellent value and superb beach access.

If you love snorkeling as much as we do, the beach right across from the hotel is good (you will have to swim out at least 30 feet or so before you start to see much though), but it gets even better if you go just a little ways north up the beach. You can walk along the beach, or drive up to Cemetery Beach which also has excellent snorkeling. If it's not too windy on the other side of the island, make sure to visit Rum Point and snorkel about 50 feet to the right of the dock...most beautiful coral gardens we've seen almost anywhere!!! « less
