- We spent a week at the Reef resort. Our room was very nice; clean with a comfortable king bed, a small kitchenette although our phone didn't work due to a storm 3 weeks earlier. The location is the main draw for this hotel. It is on the East end of the island - about 35 minutes from the airport. Car rental is highly recommended as a taxi ride we were told was $80 each way. It is also great to be able to drive around the island learning about the Camanian culture. We found the beach nice (although stinky at times) and snorkeling at the hotel was great. Parts of the reef do not look so healthy and others have lots of rocks however we did still see turtles, sting rays and lots of fish. With a car you can also snorkel from numerous other areas around the island right from shore - many that have sandy bottoms and fewer rocks. This is an optional all inclusive hotel however after talking with people and eating there ourselves not sure the huge amount they want for all inclusive is worth it, especially if you want to see other parts of the island. This is also a timeshare hotel. Read anything that you sign agreeing to take the tour very carefully. We were not sure about taking a boat trip in return for seeing their timeshare and were told that they would put our name down in case we decided to go. We arrived 15 minutes past the time of the trip and were told we would have to drive up to Rum Point where we had just rushed back from to take the trip. Since we missed the trip we were informed that we owed them $50. After a call to our travel agent the $50 'misunderstanding' as it was called was taken care of. We did have a few other issues - stuck on an elevator (told that it happens all the time), power outage (told it happens all the time) and the continental breakfast were really not worth the time - get groceries and eat in your room. We understand that being on an island phone and electrical issues do arise. There was one truly disturbing and totally unprofessional incident that makes us really question whether to recommend this hotel to others. A Caymanian grandmother and her young grandsons were fly fishing - Cayman style. Many of us were intrigued in how they were fishing and what they were catching. The beverage manager from the hotel came and insisted that they leave. They did leave the pier area and went into the ocean. He insisted that they leave stating the beach and ocean belonged to the hotel. Anyone who has traveled knows there are laws but no person or hotel owns the ocean. I talked for 45 minutes with this woman learning about the islands history, local snorkeling areas, where the locals go to eat etc. It was fascinating. I offered her a soda - which I paid for - and the same beverage manager came over and rudely told her to leave immediately. I informed him that I asked her onto the beach to purchase her a soda. He then yelled at me and stated he was uninviting her. He further told me to talk to the concierge if I wanted any information. I believe that the only reason he stopped his rudeness towards both of us was because the outside bar was full of customers that were now all watching what was going on. I did continue my talk with Lorraine - in the ocean - for at least another hour. We tried many of the places that she told us about that were not in our travel book and they were fabulous. If you have a car and are there over a weekend definitely eat at Ms Coney's (2 houses down from the pirates cove bar). She only cooks once a week and locals put in their orders early so get there at 11 when she opens. It is a green house and will have a chalkboard of what she has made for the day. There is also good traditional food on Sunday's across from the blow holes. Just walk up to the building and check the chalkboard. To conclude: loved the snorkeling, good beach, high priced average food, service on island time, lacking continental breakfast, misleading information, polite local Caymanians and a very rude manager. We did leave our comments for management along with our phone number if they wanted to clear up any misunderstandings however we have not heard from them. « less

- You do not have to walk far to do anything at this resort, such as from your room to the pool, beach, ocean, bar, restaurent, parking lot (if you rented a car) great if you are limited in walking or in a wheelchair as resort has elevators My mother in law traveled with us had no problem getting her around in a wheelchair, the Resort helped us rent one thru a local Pharmacy so we did not have to bring ours from home, this was so much easier to travel this way thru the airports.
This is me & my wifes kind of place to vacation. We had to invest in it so we purchased anouther timeshare. When they built this resort they planned everything into it & did a great job! Set your own pace for vacation sit back & just watch the ocean all day or plan something else, wow what a life......
If you ever get a chance to go here you should. The service is Excellent, do the All Inclusive you get way more than your moneys worth the food is Excellent, very large portions, top notch drinks. Loved the nightly Entertainment. Spa services excellent. All the staff was great & happy to help you. « less

- We stayed at the Reef Resort 8/13 - 8/17/10. We were overall pleased with our stay. The room we stayed in was a king bedroom. Everything on the island is pricey, but we expected that, and we had gotten a great rate to stay there so overall it worked out. It seemed like a lot of families were there having a good time. At night it was a bit noisy outside as people congregated on the beach, but it usually quieted down by 10 p.m. so it did not disturb our sleep and the mornings were nice and quiet. The dinner at the hotel was pricey and the service is on the slow side -- but it was not a big issue. We were usually just to tired to drive elsewhere. They did have 3 computers available for use at no charge -- but only during the day. There is not a lot of channels on the TV (and no pay per view) but they did have a dvd player. It is nice to have the grocery and liquor store across the street. We rented a car and it was wierd to drive on the left side of the road. Everything is backward and you have to think about it when you drive....especially in the round-a-bouts which go clockwise (to the left). We drove to Rum Beach everyday. We did the Stingray City tour with Red Sail (we preferred Warren) and we also did the wave runner tour (with Warren). The beach at Rum Beach is nice and the water is shallow and seemed nice for people with young children. We did a lot of snorkeling there and we actually saw a turtle on the reef there. We also drove over to 7 mile beach one day which took about 45 minutes (and it is a boring drive)....it was a lot like a Miami beach; solid hotels. We much preferred the quieter end at Reef Resort. « less

- They are not customer friendly, they lie and try to "bury" you into purchasing a time share that if calculated correctly is just down right a rip off. They will amke promises that are not true and since they are not part of the US they live by their own rules. Staff was horrible, food was terrible, and the resort "time share people" lets just say if their lips are moving they are "NOT TELLING YOU THE TRUTH AND ITS ALL ABOUT THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR TO THEM AND HOW MUCH THEY CAN RIP YOU OFF". WORD OF WARNING STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESORT AND SAVE YOUR MONEY. « less

- A beautiful quiet resort -- perfect if you want beach and water sports but are not really looking for nightlife. We were too exhausted from snorkeling, scuba, kayaking to stay up late anyway. A good 45 min. from the airport, Georgetown, Seven Mile Beach, so rent a car (right at the airport -- cheaper than booking through Expedia -- if you are interested in these things. Staff was helpful and responsive. Continental breakfast which came with our deal was nothing to write home about, but adequate. Food is expensive everywhere on the island, so take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen and buy some food from the market across the street and eat in occasionally. Reef directly off the beach is rocky -- bring water shoes if you want to swim instead of snorkel, but the snorkeling is great! Saw lobster, barracuda, conchs and of course lots of beautiful fish -- right outside our door. Can't wait to go back again!!! « less
