- I was a little worried about some of the comments left by others but when we got to the condo, we were pleasantly surprised. The outside of the resort is nothing special, looks a little drab but when we entered the remodeled rooms, our impression of the condo changed right away. The rooms were VERY spacious, the kitchen was large and open and the appliances were great. Each unit has an enclosed patio area that is screened off to provide protection from mosquitos. Our 2-bedroom unit had a washer/dryer, which we made good use of. (We bought laundry detergent from the office for CI $1 = US$1.25)
The condo is a very short walk (1 minute) to the 7 mile beach. We love this area because the beach was really shallow and there was an abundant amount of fish swimming right along the shore. The condo does provide beach chairs and beach umbrellas. I don't know how much beach access patrons of the 7 Mile resort will have in the future once the new beachfront property is complete. The beach area is a little rocky but if you walk about 1 minute up the beach towards the Marriott, then it's not so rocky. The beach is just beautiful here and it was just a perfect place to relax and snorkel.
The activities coordinator for the resort is Cherry. She is the sweetest person. We loved all the activities that the resort had for little kids. My 4 yr old loved the t-shirt painting, face painting and iguana feeding. There were also sandcastle building, kite flying and sea shell collecting. There is a kiddie pool area for young swimmers so my daughter had fun in the pool too. Activities for adults include string ray city tours, cave tour, scuba, parasailing and water arobics in the morning. The price for the sting ray city tour booked through the resort was pricier than outside vendors (US$40 vs $25) so we didn't go with the resort's tour.
The cost of a taxi ride from the GCM airport was CI$35 = US44. The bus cost CI$2=US$2.50. The 7 Mile Beach resort is about a 10-15 minute walk to Kirk's supermarket and a short ride to Fosters at the Strand. The resort does provide a free shuttle ride to Foster's Supermarket on Monday morning. There is a car rental place right across the street from the resort so it was convenient if you want to rent a car. The resort is also close to shops and restaurants.
The downside to the resort is a US$70/wk charge for hotel tax and US$70 charge for electricity. There were other reviews that mentioned the old office and the run-down tennis court as being eyesores. The old office is no longer there and I would not have noticed that it even existed if I hadn't read the other reviews. The tennis court is hidden in the back and though it may look a little run down, I didn't come to the caymans to play tennis so it didn't really matter if it was run down or brand new.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the resort, my daughter loved the activities, and the beach area hear is absolutely beautiful. We were fortunate to be able to exchange our timeshare for a week there at the 7 Mile resort so the cost for a 1 week stay was very cheap. But after this wonderful experience with the resort, we would gladly pay full price to come back to there again. « less

- During my visit, this place had no "club" of any sort open due to the conditions. They had a hurricane months before my stay here, which I was aware of, so I wasn't suprised with the damage done, but it was dissapointing. They had to use a room for the office and the tennis courts were being used as construction storage space. I'm sure for the most part, it is all cleaned and fixed up now. The pool was wonderful, nice tempurature, waterfalls, and hot tub. The hotel area was also very pretty. If you prefer taking your luggage to the 3rd floor up an elevator, then this isn't the place to be. No elevators, or indoor room access for that matter. There was no continental breakfast or any type of food service. They did have many activites going on at the resort, such as water aerobics, iguana feeding, poolside bingo, and t shirt painting. They also had a boat tour available to go snorkeling and to stingray city. This place is only a few steps away from Seven Mile Beach, with about 40 or so feet of shore and then the wonderful water! I'd bring water shoes, though, plenty of sea plants. Now for the best part, the ROOMS! They were nice and spacious, with great TVs and bathrooms, and the kitchen was very impressive. They also had free movie rental. Overall, this was a very relaxing stay. « less

- We are not owners but have rented or stayed with family who did own. As many of the other posters have pointed out there is alot that needs to be done to this place. In regards to the end unit being occupied by live-ins and looking shabby that is correct. It appears this unit is being used by the maintenance staff and the dive guys. The scooter was owned by one of the divers and he parked it on the porch every day. Our condo was the ground floor unit right next to it so we saw them daily.
Everything in our room worked properly except for a few small things like a handle falling off a cabinet or a window crank not working. All things we pointed out to the office when we checked out hoping they would fix before next arrivals. Bring a frying pan. The kitchen equipment provided is very worn and really not safe to use anymore. I actually thought the bed was very comfortable and our internet worked fine. We brought along a wireless router because we had 3 laptops to connect. The last time we were at this condo was prior to Ivan in 2004 and the unit remodels are very nice. No more plastic furniture on the porch, comfy padded chairs and heavy table. The closets have been removed to give the bedrooms more space but there was plenty of drawer space.
The entire situation surrounding the old office and the tennis courts is a little disconcerting. We were actually considering buying here but not until they resolve this issue. We love the location and the fact that it is floating weeks not fixed. It may not be directly on the beach but it is such a short walk.
The snorkelling right off the beach was very good. We saw a nurse shark, many parrott fish, a couple different types of rays and of course many other beautiful fish. Something different every day. Parasailing pick up in front of the Marriott was great. We used parasailing professionals. We rented a car from Andy's directly across the street for the last few days on the island and they even gave us a ride to the airport on the last day.
Overall we enjoyed our 2 weeks tremendously and were very sad to leave. Would we stay here again. YES. Would we buy a condo here, not until they resolve their court issues and rebuild the office area. « less

- There's conctruction going on and it looks like it'll be a while before its completed.
Also, your dollar is only worth 80 cents.. what a rip off.

We were very glad to see that the old office has finally been torn down and that the seating area by it has been nicely "redone." We'd like to know the plans for the area where the office used to be located as nothing is currently being done with that space and it doesn't look so great.
We love the pool. It is a great size and the waterfalls help you forget you're near a busy road and beach condo construction site. It would be nice if there was a little more shade where the lounges are. That can probably be accomplished with the addition of 3-4 sturdy umbrellas in stands.
Speaking of umbrellas - - it was great to see the resort had purchased sturdy umbrellas for the beach. The addition of some permanent places to place them at the beach is a wonderful plus. There seem to be some fairly new lounge chairs on the beach which we very much enjoyed using while down there.
The small book library (leave one, take one) and borrow a movie feature in the office are very nice as are the women who work in the office. They are pleasant and helpful!
The tennis court looks awful. Last we knew there was a legal dispute with the neighboring property. If & when this is resolved, it needs to be cleaned up for use or torn up and something else done with it. Sitting by the tennis court is a portable shipping/storage unit that has been there since recently after the 2004 hurricane. It's well past time to move that and doing so may free up an additional parking spot which can be used.
At the end of the building closest to the beach sits a single, attached condo unit. That unit is sans roof. Why is it possible to have replaced the tile on every other roof in the resort except this one? This unit also seems to be lived in rather than one of the weekly rentals. The front and sliding doors and windows are many times wide open exposing the inside, which isn't kept so neat and tidy. Sometimes there was a scooter on that porch. The window by the entrance to this unit was propped open with a piece of wood. The appearance and use of this unit was trashy and detracted greatly from the appearance of the resort.
The single attached condo unit in the building closest to the road has a similar, albeit not quite as bad, problem. There is an abundance of what appears to be extra furniture stacked in the unit and the curtains are open. At least close the curtain so it's not visible.
The sliding glass doors in our unit would not lock. The lock was broken. The side without the lock was warped and not flush with the door frame - thus permitting both air and probably bugs and lizards in. The master bath toilet would barely flush, the mattresses are very uncomfortable and the unit was missing a few dishes and utensils. It wouldn't be too difficult or expensive for the resort to stock replacements and replace these as needed.
The couches and chair are getting rather dirty and should be cleaned or replaced. The wireless internet service was sporadic at best. This may not be the resort's fault but be aware it's not reliable. The floor, while appearing to have been mopped prior to our check-in, was very dirty. It seemed as though it was mopped with a dirty mop. The ice maker in the fridge stopped working mid-week - it still made ice but you had to get in the freezer to access it vs being able to press your glass against the "arm" on the outside and access it from outside the fridge. The filtered water from that same "set-up" takes an incredibly long-time to come out due to the slow, small stream. It too is on "island time!"
Remember when staying here that you pay for electricity and a $10 per day condo tax. We like it pretty cool and our electricity for the week was about $130 U.S.
Unless you are a very heavy sleeper, expect the roosters to awaken you at sunrise. The resort really needs to do something about that. There is no reason farm animals should ever be on resort grounds like that. It's unclean and obnoxious when you're trying to sleep anytime past sunrise.
I advise to rent a car when on the island. Remember grocery stores, liquor stores and most shops are closed on Sunday.
It is disconcerting to me that we purchased a unit several years ago when I recall it was at least given 3 stars by the sites we all know you can use to purchase air, hotel and rental cars from. The degradation of the resort to 2 stars concerns us as owners. If any other owners have similar concerns, please contact me by email if it's possible to do so on here. I'd like to see if there is something we can collectively do to improve this situation, protect our investment, and keep the resort well-maintained for all of us to use for future vacations. « less
