- Problems with Alaska Millenium:
1. The check-in process.
a. The time is not posted on the website.
b. The email I sent to anchorage@mhrmail.com (taken from their website) days before my arrival was not answered by Leah Johnson, the concierge, until two days after being there. I replied back and let her know that she was two days late.
c. I tried to check in at 0630, 0800 (as instructed), 1200 (as instructed) and finally got in a little after 1300 after I witnessed a German couple walk right in and get their room. When I asked about the apparent ease they had of getting their room, I never received an answer to that question.
2. Room 1005, along with several others posted on a cheat-sheet near the computer behind the front desk, lists about 20 rooms that the staff KNOW does not have Internet access. That would have been nice to know because I spent almost one hour trying to connect.
3. As an attempt to appease me, I was told that the hotel would “eat” the taxes. Considering that I am active duty military and shouldn’t be paying ANY taxes, I considered this another cheap (and somewhat sly) attempt to make me happy, which didn’t work. It only confirmed that I made my reservations at the wrong hotel.
4. I was also told that many of the front desk staff are relatively new and that many of them didn’t know what category of
5. After I made a stink, I was later assigned to room 1019, where again I couldn’t connect until Phil from engineering came to my room and walked me through the process. This process required me to charge a fee of almost $10 for 24 hours of connectivity. This is in direct conflict with what their website says here: http://www.millenniumhotels.com/millenniumanchorage/rooms/index.html, which on 16 Aug 2010 read:
These spacious guest rooms are handsomely furnished with the feel of Alaska and packed with thoughtful details. Two double poster beds with plush pillow top mattresses and offering both foam and feather pillows ensure a peaceful night's rest. In-room amenities include air conditioning, refrigerator, 2 phones, voice mail, wireless internet access, bathrobes, 25 inch TV with pay movies, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, oversize seperate vanities and more.
(This is verbatim with the typo of “separate”, which is not very professional).
I was told that the daily charge would be removed from my bill. (It eventually was, after I opposed paying for it!).
6. After another trip to the front desk and raising a stink about the charge for Internet access, I was asked if I received my breakfast coupon. I said “What breakfast coupon?” The ladies that checked me in failed to tell me that I qualified for this coupon, which is limited to $15. Considering that four pancakes and a large OJ came to $14, I consider this breakfast coupon as a cheap marketing attempt. The pancakes were not that good.
7. On the evening of Monday, 16 Aug, I went to the “health club”, which wasn’t much of a club at all. The whirlpool was drained and out of commission. The steam room had become a storage room and was also out of commission, blocked by a rack of dumbbell. The sauna was the only thing that seemed to be functional. Yet, at this link, I found the following:
http://www.millenniumhotels.com/millenniumanchorage/facilities/sportsLeisure.html
Health club is open 24 hours and includes:
o Whirlpool, steam room and sauna
o State-of-the-art exercise equipment: Stairmasters, Lifecycles, free weights and treadmills”
8. A few other things that I noticed that appeared to be unusual for any hotel were:
a. The ceiling in the lobby near the fireplace appears to be crumbling apart at the seams. Actually, after a closer look, it appears that most of the drywall seams that were taped over seem to be “sagging”, as if moisture is leaking down.
b. The area rugs by the front desk are best described as absolutely NASTY, complete with ragged edges. This does not make for a very good first impression.
c. The carpet in the hallways, at least the ones I walked on were very dirty and stained, obviously in need of a desperate cleaning.
d. In room 1019, the carpet that leads to the bathroom is not secured. The edge is frayed and you can lift up the carpet and see the pad and tack nails.
e. The landscaping outside is pitiful. There was trash and weeds everywhere. Weeds need to be pulled and new mulch put down. What appear to be window wells near one of the doors, leaves and trash were being collected, including a small Jack Daniels bottle! And again, this does not leave a very good first impression.
f. Having the smoking area right outside this same door caused the smell of smoke to be sucked into my room. BTW, I can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke.
g. The metal doors at the entrance by room 1033 don’t match.
h. Even in all of this gloom and doom, not all is lost. Phil from engineering and Samantha at the front desk were bright points and their assistance is appreciated.
10. At check-out\, my bill included an $18 lunch that I did not order or eat. Wonder who did and charged it to my room?
11. In case you were wondering, I will never stay at this hotel again. Nor will I recommend this place to anyone. « less

- This hotel was booked by my company's booking agent and I have recommended that they do not use it in the future. I was part of a group of 38 people who had 19 rooms booked. The staff at reception were generally helpful but all of our party were made to feel extremely unwelcome despite the fact that they had an addtional 38 people drinking in their bar every night until late.
It is $12 per day for the interenet, however, if you log-in as airline and use the password crew, it is free!!
Service at breakfast was woeful - extremely slow, incorrect orders but the food was ok.
There was zero flexibility from the managment - we asked if we could have a late check-out (by 1 hour) due to work commitments - this was possible but only if we paid for another night.
Service in the bar was never with a smile and it felt that we were in the way all the time.
The room was extremely dated and dirty .
Do not stay here! « less

- We spent one night before our trip home from Alaska. The room was comfortable but dated. Lobby was nice to wander in and gift shop was open late. Free airport shuttle on demand. We ate in the bar area and food was good with nice views of the lake and sea planes. Our room was quiet on the fourth floor. « less

- Hotel is very dated and not well-maintained. There was mold on the walls and carpet was worn to threads and had torn away from the wall in many places. I found a spider on the bed and my husband found more behind the curtains. They did move us to another room (no spiders in the new room) but the room was also in very poor shape. The bed was ok but I was honestly relieved to get out of there. We got the room for 155 on priceline - way, way too much. This is a one star hotel in terms of quality. If we could do it again, I would pay the extra 40 and stay at Embassy suites or one of the other newer hotels. « less
