- Our stay at The Phoenician was everything you would expect from a luxury hotel. Everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out. The hotel sits at the base of the Camelback Mountains - a sight to behold and the hotel itself is beautiful. Our room was spacious, functional and had a great view. The staff at this place is incredible, they live to make you smile. We will definitely be back. « less

- My husband and I stayed at the Phoenician over Father's Day weekend. We were offered a room in the main building or a Casita. We chose the Casita because it was near the pool and we planned on spending alot of time there. We chose wisely! The room was beautiful and was very close to the pools. We had a very comfortable patio on a grassy area with a waterfall and stream. The grounds were immaculate and the service was great.
We enjoyed the pool 2 days. They had good poolside service and a good menu for poolside food. The only complaint about the pool area was there were two tile walkways separating different portions of the pools and those tiles were slippery. We saw several people slip (without falling fortunately). Many people would take off their shoes / flip flops to make the walk because they obviously knew from prior walks!
We dined at Il Terrazzo and had a wonderful meal. My husband enjoyed the Mac N Cheese that was made with white cheddar and broccoli and I enjoyed the Kobe Flat Iron, we shared with each other and couldn't have been happier with our meals.
All in all, the Phoenician was a great couple's retreat - not overrun with kids, upscale, beautiful and very relaxing. « less Read management response to this review.
Thank you for your comments. We appreciate knowing that you enjoyed your special couple's getaway over the Father's Day Weekend. I hope you found the waterfall, stream and lush lawns to be relaxing! I will be sure to share your kind remarks with our chef de cuisine at Il Terrazzo. Did you, by chance, have the opportunity to sample our house-made breads? While caution is always recommended around any wet pool surfaces, I will pass along your observations regarding potential slippage to ensure all preventative measures remain in place. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

- We checked in at The Phoenician on July 30-Aug 2, 2010 for a weekend of golf. Booked two rooms - One King and one Double. Originally booked a superior room but was "supposedly" upgraded to a King Casita (7153 connecting). I would have preferably remained in the superior room as I will describe. The property is gorgeous and well-manicured at all times. Several pools around the property - considering the size, it is very quiet. Room service is prompt but expensive. Ordered 2 onion soups to our "casita" for $42 which included all the extra fees they added. The price on the menu was $9.00 each. Our room was conveniently located right across the golf clubhouse which allowed easy access without driving around. The golf course was under some sort of maintenance therefore my husband did not enjoy it as much. He considers the Biltmore and Gainey Ranch to be the best so far. Each room has a plasma screen tv, two phones, large bathroom with tubs ,safe, iron and table, robes and slippers. Minibar - expensive. Our room had a Dream Machine CD/Radio, the other room had a Bose. Don't know why. Internet for a fee is available in the rooms. Each room had a private balcony with lounge chairs and a table. Our room balconies faced Camelback Mountain for a nice view. Had breakfast at the Il Terrazo - good but pricey. A-la-carte - The Steal-Cut oatmeal is to die for! Buffet is about $25pp. Excellent service. Later discovered the cafe in the hotel shoppes which serves the same items but at a much lower price. Dined on July 31 at Il Terrazo - excellent food and service but again very very pricey. I ordered the Filet Mignon with 6 shrimp that was excellent - better that Ruth Chris! The Pina Colada arrived quite watered down. The server quickly replaced it with a Lemon Drop Martini. The restaurant had only about 6 tables occupied (two were ours) on a Saturday night. Overall the staff is very courteous and professional at all times.
PROBLEMS: 1.) Room had a leak by the sliding glass door. Water leaked in during a rainstorm. Maintenance came to evaluate problem but blamed it on the rain. They said it was coming from the balcony on top. Did nothing else but offered to vacuum up the water from the carpet. That was never done 2.) None of the rooms on this property have refrigerated A/C but a water coil cooling system that dumps 100% humidity into the rooms. It was the most uncomfortable condition. Sheets were moist; carpet is icky; cannot do your hair with humidity and the awful humid smell. Contacted maintenance again when on the second day we realized that something was wrong with the temperature of the room. We felt ill with the dampness. The tech came and explained that this was a cooling system and that in the summer the humidity was felt higher. Living in New Mexico, we are very familiar with evaporative cooling systems, aka "Swamp Coolers," and are not very fond of. In our home, we have refrigerated air (we are original Floridians - so we know what we are talking about.) They offered to move us to another room that may be a little cooler without as much humidity but we declined as it was our last night and did not want to move. We were completely disappointed with the tempertature condition of this property. A 5 star property with a mediocre cooling system! As my husband prefers Arizona to play golf, we frequently visit Scottsdale and Phoenix but have never experienced this problem in any of the many hotels 3-5 stars tht we have stayed. Tthe front desk staff was made aware of the discomfort we experienced and compensated us however, The Phoenician is definitely not on our return list until the cooling systems is upgraded. « less

- After three long flights, I arrived once more at the entrance to the Phoenician, which always impresses me,the grounds /ameninities are wonderful.
I had reserved a Grand Deluxe room. To my surpirse I was allocated a Casita Grand Deluxe Room and not one in the main building. After retrieving my car and luggage from the valet i had to load up the car and go locate my room (7522). I arrived at the small car park at my casita , the lot was full, I later found out why, the burger restaurant is oposite so non resident guests take the liberty to park here. There is no assistance at these rooms or I wasnt offered. I had to take my own luggage to my second floor casita in the 100 degree afternoon. Compared to the other accomodations I have stayed in Grand deluxe and Canyon Suites, this room was very small. I was staying there for 6 nights on a business trip. On closer inspection the floor carper was all stained and was in need of a good deep clean. I wore my shoes at all times. I called reception and spoke to Amanda as I had aired my concern with her upon check in that I was in a casita room and it probably was not as nice a room as the main building, She told me there were no GD rooms available to change, although the hotel was at 22% occupancy. I called again and spoke to Sara and she told me they would change me next day. The call or the alternative room was never offered. Hence I never ate breakfast or dinner in the main hotel as I didnt want to have to drive and park underneath or walk in the heat across the pool areas, which are very nice. It's a inconvenience, one that I was not prepared for. I used the room telephone to leave a voice message at our AZ office 4 times on several days, 22 seconds, 34 seconds etc. I found telephone charges of $41.70 four times, its there standard connection charge, obsurd! « less Read management response to this review.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It is disheartening to learn that your recent visit did not meet your expectations, nor serve as an example of our traditional service. Valet service is available to our casita guests, which includes luggage delivery. In addition, guests who would prefer not to walk to resort outlets from the casitas may call the bell desk to arrange for pick-up. I will share your comments with our team, to ensure these services are thoroughly communicated to guests. I will also provide your review to our rooms division. Please know that our staff makes every possible effort to provide our guests with their preferred accommodations. Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback. We hope to welcome you to The Phoenician once again, creating the exceptional guest experience for which we are known.
