- we have stayed here twice in the past
the rooms are very hotel like and spacious
we had a two bed which is really a large king suite and a queen suite so two bedrooms and two living spaces and a kitchen and kitchenette
the rooms are well appointed with very good bathrooms
there are pools for adults only and one for kids
it is a lovely place
my only gripe is the pestering of the timeshare sales to view for a time share sale or a ''return visit'' which is a subsidised incentive dependent on a time share presentation
over the course of a week i had five phone calls and a card delivered to my room inviting the time share presentation
i like the resort but hate the hard sell - the product is good and the desperation to sell cheapens it « less

- This resort is amazing. The rooms are beautifully appointed, views wonderful, food delicious, but the best gem of this resort is the staff. My family and I had the most wonderful experience at this resort. I was able to take advantage of Agave Spa (which is absolutely magnificent), while my husband and family enjoyed themselves at the pool. The staff at every turn was helpful, informative and for the kids playful and attentive. The grounds are immaculate and very well maintained. Though it was a little warm in Scottsdale at this time, it couldn't have been a better trip ever. We have memories of a lifetime thanks to the Westin Kierland Resort. Thank you to all of them. « less

- This was our third stay at the Westin Kierland Villas and it was wonderful. The rooms are clean and well equipped. If there was ever anything we needed, the staff was always kind and willing to help. There are activities for kids and families and you have full use of the hotel facilities, if you desire. We would stay here again in a minute. « less

- This was our second visit to the Westin Kierland Villas. What we love: spacious rooms, fun pool slide, no crowds, great lobby, fabulous service, views are wonderful, super kids activities, pool staff at the villas and resort are wonderful! What we do not like: That we have to leave. Our four children, upon leaving after our week stay, asked if we can come back again next year. We love this place for a relaxing, not rushed, family vacation. We will be back next summer. « less

- Let me first say that I know June is a very hot month to vacation in Arizona! But since my daughter was out of college, this is the best we could do. I selected this timeshare when we had come off of having 52 inches of snow in Northern VA and was just looking for sun, fun (lazy river!) and relaxation. I was not disappointed. I have been to the Grand Canyon (in July) and Vegas, but had not been to this part of AZ before. The temps our week of vacation were unusually hot (98-110 degrees). The following week AZ was having a cool down of low 90's (figures).
We arrived in Phoenix, the rental car place was quick and efficient and 25 minute drive to the villas (they give maps but we also brought along our GPS) and since we were early we stopped by Chloe's Corner for lunch (this is in Kierland Commons). Fantastic place for lunch (we never made it back for breakfast). We then checked into one part of our villa (the smaller side was ready) and was told we would be called when the lock off was clean. We would get the call around four pm. They ended up calling not the cell phone number that we gave them, but our home phone number! We missed the call obviously so at four pm we went back to the counter to check on room and it was available. Check in was I had read it to be like on TripAdvisor. The girl behind the counter was aloof and a bit snooty. Not too friendly. I had called months ahead and asked to be on the highest floor possible with golf course view (maybe the 4th floor in Bldg 3 or 5 is what I had requested). We were given 2nd floor in Bldg 4. We are Marriott timeshare owners so we get what we get, I suppose. I almost asked the snooty girl if they showed my request but my family ended up really liking the room. They send you over to the concierge who was very nice. He didn't get us to lock into a presentation time, and he didn't pester us about it, but they do call your room daily and leave messages that were ignored daily by us. The concierge gave us good print outs on what our interests for the week were.
Back to the room: our balcony faced the one pool and mini-golf area (if that's what it was). It was quiet with occasional vacationers strolling by. We played cards on the balcony a few times. The room was clean, yes it was dark but AZ gets HOT so the room has to be closed up to keep it cool, we loved the dual shower heads so much we bought them once home (from Amazon not the Westin), my 18 yr old daughter had the one bedrm apartment to herself with her own w/d and kitchen (small refrig) and my husband and I had the other side. This is one of the first vacations we took without bringing friends along, so we had lots of space!
We went to Safeway for groceries (minutes away by car but shuttle from villas will also take you). We took shuttle over to hotel first night to get acclamated. Walked the hotel grounds. Used fitness center few times. Never crowded. Went to the hotel pool two or three times so that we could float with drinks on lazy river BUT it gets crowded on the weekends over there (they give you wrist band to wear) and use the slide. We loved the quiet pool at the villas and loved the service for lunches and drinks (the villa menus are less expensive compared to hotel menu). We bought noodles at Walgreens but people also had rafts and floats and inner tubes as well to float on.
Restaurants we tried and enjoyed were the following: Indulge for burgers (very good), Los Olivos in Old Town Scottsdale (EXCELLENT), Yogurtology (frozen yogurt--12 flavors with tons of toppings and weighed once you are done loading it up so be careful but oh so good...better than another yogurt place we tried while there...much better...), Oreganos in Old Town Scottsdale (pizza and this place was out of this world...very small inside, but oh so good!), Oaxaca in Sedona (didn't love as much as Los Olivos), and PF Changs (yes we have them in Northern VA but we had never been--FABULOUS food!). We didn't try restaurants at Westin and we didn't listen to the timeshare presentation. We ate poolside and drank poolside, and the quesadillas were great as well as the pizza there.
My daughter and I went to the Marriott Camelback Spa for facials and had a wonderful day of lunch by spa pool and pampering. I chose this over the Westin to get the Marriott points and to venture out to a new place. My husband went to Talking Stick Casino (go here to gamble...do not go to the Radisson--ugh--a metal building they added on to the hotel with LOW ceilings and not pleasant). At Talking Stick there were 1, 2 and 5 cent slots :)
We walked Old Town Scottsdale one night (wanted to shop at Del Sol), drove to Cave Creek and Carefree, and to the new Waterfront area. Be warned: things close up so early! By eight pm Old Town is closed. Waterfront area stores closed Sun and Mon. Cave Creek and Carefree (saw the huge sundial and old towns) stores closed up by four and five pm.
We took day trip to Sedona and found that fascinating. Did the trolley tours (two of them back to back to see all the formations and the church inside the rocks). On the drive back to Scottsdale, we drove up to Flagstaff (much cooler! it was 95 plus degrees in Sedona) and walked Cochino Park (loved the jewelry that was for sale here since I hadn't bought anything in Sedona).
We even took in a movie one hot afternoon after being at the pool and before dinner. WE didn't get to see the bagpipes play, because by that time we were either out for the night or just didn't care to get over to the hotel. We aren't golfers, so I can't say anything here except the golfers were out VERY early due to the heat. The shuttle driver did say that usually things slow down after Memorial Day but they were just about full for that week of June (good for the economy!). We didn't notice crowds except for first weekend at hotel pool
I loved the Westin and would go back to Scottsdale! (I gave it a five for value only because I didn't have to pay since I traded my timeshare and a four for service because I didn't love the attitude at the front desk upon arrival). I would go in October though :) « less
