- This was our third trip to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and first time at this hotel. The Fairmont hotel was beautiful. We upgraded to Fairmont Gold, and our room was big enough for two adults and two teenagers. The bathroom was also exceptionally large with a double sink, separate toilet and shower areas and large bathtub. Service in the Gold room was exceptionally attentive, and all who worked there seemed to really go out of their way to make sure we were happy. They knew us by name, and took the time to find directions, information about shopping places, attractions and restaurants as well as brought out water for us to take on our daily excursions. It was evident the people here LOVED their jobs.
There was a path around the grounds of the hotel in view of the TPA golf course, and I can confirm that walking it was a very calming, peaceful experience. I went on vacation to relax, and this path amazingly was a wonderful way to do it. I looked forward to walking on the path and around the grounds.
There were three pools. We went in two of them. (There was no reason for not going in the third, only that we just didn't get there.) One pool had two slides, and yes, even the adults enjoyed them. We are normally not swimmers, but enjoyed the pools.
The restaurants were as everyone who wrote reviews said, on the expensive side. However, I will say we did have some awesome potato soup in the restaurant close to the pool. It was more than a pleasant surprise. (Try it if you go!) Some of the food was a bit extravagant or "out there"-- and my teenagers did say, "why don't they have plain food that teenagers like?---" I.e. a plain hamburger and fries as opposed to something more gourmet. This was a good point. Sometimes or a lot of times plainer food is more enjoyable (to us anyway) than really fancy concoctions. The food was good---just not towards the simple side which we would have more preferred and which my teenagers wanted.
The hotel seemed to be in a good location close to the freeway, shopping and other activities. It seem to be easy to get wherever we wanted to go (with a car.) Walking to places outside of the hotel wasn't really an option because of the distance and no sidewalks.
Now--the downsides which are more comments to think about instead of complaints--- what comes to mind is: 1. that had we not upgraded to the Gold program, we would have had to pay for parking, entrance to the Willow Stream Spa, Internet Access, etc. These fees were pricey. I don't think I would have paid to enter the spa, and then paid for services in the spa. To me, paying for the services , which were expensive, and the tips, should be enough. 2. there were a few days where our room wasn't serviced until pretty late in the day. I guess it jumped out at us because we normally go out to breakfast or lunch when at a hotel and return to a cleaned room. Perhaps this was just a week where they were short staffed. Again, when the room was cleaned, they did a good job...... so we had no complaints. 3. The parking lot (if you did not valet park your car which was more expensive) was a good distance from the room. If you are handicapped or have difficulty walking, or had a lot of packages or "stuff" to carry and did not valet park and use the golf cart service, getting to your room might be a chore. Again--- there might be other rooms closer to parking lots, but where we were was a nice jaunt. (Hotel personnel were driving around on golf carts and would gladly take you places if they were there. But, if they weren't, you had to prepare yourself for a walk. 4. My son asked why it was that all the hotels that we stayed at in Arizona had entrances from the ourside, as opposed to via hallways on the inside. I didn't get an answer to that question. His comment was that he would prefer entering the room from a hallway on the inside instead of on the outside. Again--- this was not a problem, just something we noticed in our travels.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel, and I would go back again. It was calm, peaceful and very relaxing and exactly what I wanted. « less

- Really nice hotel. Though it seemed to be less modern than I had anticipated. It was an enjoyable stay though. The staff were excellent! They were polite and did not hesitate to help when you had a question. There are about 2 or 3 pools too!
Since it's so big and only consists of 2 floors (almost all buildings in AZ are like this), there was a lot of walking to get to the lobby or the restaurant. « less

- Dear Sir or Madam:
I cannot even begin to express my overwhelming disappointment with your property. I had booked your Master Suite which was to include an adjoining bedroom with two double beds and a South Pool Cabana to celebrate a bachelorette party on Saturday, August 7th.
Upon our 11:00am arrival, we were instructed that our room was not yet ready and that we will receive a phone call to let us know when we may pick up our keys. Myself, and my three friends decided to eat lunch in your LV Bistro and enjoy our cabana in the meantime. The hostess seated us outside on the patio with breakfast menus. We were sitting at our table for almost 10 minutes before our waitress greeted us. It was 11:25am and I asked to see a lunch menu in which case I was told they do not serve lunch until 11:30am. I had to point out the fact that it was only 5 minutes away before she decided she would allow us to see a different menu. We had yet to receive water or been asked for a drink order, and with an outside temperature of 100+ degrees, I requested the patio misting system be turned on. Another 20 minutes went by. No misting system, no waitress. It wasn’t until I pointed out the obvious to the hostess that our server moseyed out to take our drink order and the misting system was finally turned on. Other patrons were behind us and stated that they have been waiting for their waitress to take their food order for almost an hour. Once we finally did receive our food and cocktails, we were happy with the taste and quality, however I cannot be sure if it truly was delicious or if we were simply delirious with heat stroke, dehydration, and hunger. After an excruciatingly long lunch we decided to settle in to our cabana.
I immediately contacted a pool server and mentioned that we have a reserved cabana and would like to know where it is. She said she would check and let us know. After standing in the sun for several minutes I noticed that she was now handing out menus to customers and taking orders by the bar. Obviously she was not coming back, so I took it upon myself to walk to the bar and ask the bartender my original question. I was pointed to the area across the pool where we would be for the day. The cabana consisted of the following: 5 rolled towels on a tray, 1 bottle of water, 2 bottles of Gatorade, and a cocktail server that we shared with every other person in the pool area. We didn’t even know that we were supposed to receive a fruit tray until another hotel patron mentioned it; we had to specifically request it or we would have never received it. Exactly what part of that little tent is so amazing that your property feels a $150.00 charge is justifiable? Also, Expedia lists you as a 5-star property; it shocks me that with that rating all of the foam pool lounges/floats resemble something that went through a shark attack. They are in embarrassing condition for a Motel 6, let alone a “5-star” property.
It was now after 4:00pm and I still had not yet received a call that our room is ready. I headed to the lobby to complain about the cabana and to see if our room was finally available. The woman I spoke to was very professional and assured me the cabana charge would be removed from the bill. I received our keys and a bellman named Zack to assist us with our luggage.
We were once again appalled when our Master Suite which was to include an adjoining bedroom with two double beds was only the “suite” and a murphy bed. I pointed this out to the bellman and he immediately contacted the front desk to resolve. After watching this poor man on hold for over 10 minutes I had hit my boiling point. I then called the JW Marriott and started to book two rooms. Just prior to me giving my credit card information, the front desk finally “found” us a suite. We were in 1032. They moved us to 1034. How it took almost 15 minutes for someone to “find” us a room that was immediately next door, absolutely boggles my mind. I do need to mention that the ajoining bedroom only contained a King bed, not the two beds and I had specifically requested. Zack should be commended as he was at this point the Fairmont’s only saving grace.
We then got ready for dinner and through the Valet requested a shuttle to Roy’s at the JW Marriott. I was told by someone on the phone that it would cost $15 for me and four friends. We were slapped in the face with yet another annoyance when we were charged $30 for the one way ride.
We eventually met other friends to total a group of 11. Our original plan was to end the night at your Stone Rose Lounge, however after the day’s consistent disappointments we moved our party to another bar off property. Once we finally returned to our room, it was par for the course when only one of the four keys actually worked and unlocked our door. The only thing that would have shocked me any more at this point would be if the beds in our room spontaneously combusted.
I am absolutely mortified that I had chosen the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess to celebrate such an important moment of my friend’s life, and I am outraged that “5-stars and 5-diamonds” provided more drama than relaxation.
Sincerely,
Donna McReynolds « less

- Just returned from a 7 day, 6 night stay at the Fairmont Princess. Our last visit was about 4 years ago, and the resort has undergone some great upgrades. We booked our trip through Southwest Vacations, which I probably wouldn't do again, but we couldn't beat the price. We stayed in a Fairmont Deluxe room (free upgrade with the package). The rooms have been completely remodeled, however, the only thing that was disappointing was they were not decorated in a southwest decor as you would expect for this type of resort. The bathrooms are HUGE with granite counters, double sinks, large shower with rainfall shower head and a jacuzzi style tub. The room claims to have two oversized double beds, but I think oversized is a bit of a stretch. To me, they just seemed like two double beds. Large balcony overlooking the East pool and the mountains. Great view. The main pool (South Pool) has been re-done since last trip with all new tiles. The first couple of days the water in the pool had to be 95 degrees and was not refreshing, but they seemed to have fixed that problem by the 3rd day. In 110 degree heat, you want COLDER water.....Friday nights at La Hacienda, they do an authentic pig roast/bbq for $29 per adult and $15 for children under 12. This was by far the best meal we had in Scottsdale. If you are there on a Friday night in the summer, it is a MUST!!!! This was just a GREAT vacation. Nothing but lying poolside and swimming for a week. Keep up the good work Fairmont, and THANKS!!!!! « less
