Overview

Location. Nestled between 14,000-foot peaks in the San Isabel National Forest, the La Roca de Tiza is set on the banks of Chalk Creek in Nathrop, Colo. Horseback riding, including guided rides and day-long excursions, is available at the Mount Princeton Riding Stables, located within five miles. The inn is 12 miles from St. Elmo, a ghost town showcasing preserved buildings.
Features. This French country-style inn, built in 1981, is set on five acres nestled between Mount Princeton and Mount Antero. La Roca de Tiza is fronted by a meadow filled with wildflowers, and features exposed post and beam construction, two fireplaces and a deck. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served each morning on the deck or in the dining area, with the signature dish of puff pancakes. A variety of packed lunches are available for a fee. Coffee, tea, and iced tea are available upon request throughout the day, and a glass of wine or cocktail is offered each evening. The inn features a geothermal hot tub filled with water from a hot water well. Satellite television and a pool table are provided.

Guestrooms. La Roca de Tiza offers three guestrooms with private bathrooms. All rooms provide panoramic views of the Chalk Creek, mountains and woodlands. Rooms are furnished with wood paneling and are individually decorated. Amenities baskets with chocolate, cookies and fruit are provided.

Expert Tip. Chalk Creek, located at La Roca de Tiza’s doorstep, offers fishers vast amounts of brook and cutthroat trout.
