- We probably stay in 25 - 30 hotels a year between business and leisure travel, so I think I have seen pretty well everything. I recently booked this hotel for a nice romantic getaway for a few days. Well the trouble started as soon as we drove up. Not a staff person to be found, I thought the hotel was closed. I parked the car, and took my luggage out of the trunk. Still no one around. As I was walking into the hotel, a bellman finally came out asking if I needed help with my luggage. I told him it was a little late for that.
We upgraded to a suite and when we arrived in our room, we were totally disgusted with the condition of the room. It was bad - stains and cigarette burns all over the carpets, chairs so dirty, you wouldn't want to sit on them. Furniture was worn out and broken.
I went out in the hall to speak to housekeeping, I asked her if there were any rooms that were recently renovated. She just looked back at me and didn't answer. I think she knew where I was coming from. She said no as they were starting to renovate in Sept.
We decided to leave. I went down to the front desk and told them we were going to leave immediately. It was then then we found out this property has just been purchased by Marriott and they were going to begin upgrading it to Marriott quality.
So my recomendation would be to stay away until that happens. « less

- We chose the Great Escape package that Marriott offers for this hotel. Sumptous breakfast and dinners included in the price $$$$.
One of the included dinners was on their yacht. Much to our surprise the food was still very good.
All staff were looking to be helpful in every way. My husband enjoyed the attached flags to the pool chairs. It didn't take a moment for a waitress to arrive to replenish his glass.
No one there seemed to even have heard of the oil spill. It must be a media myth about central and south FL waters or beaches having problems.
Room service was on time and wonderful. Good pastries, strawberries and champagne.
Be sure to stay in building with restaurant. The others are too far to use this plan. Additional $20 daily resort fee plus parking fees.
Very relaxing weekend. « less

- Only returned from a two night stay with my husband and two kids. Check in is at 4pm but we arrived 2pm and received room straight away. Reception desk staff friendly and we were upgraded to sea view room. We had asked crib when booking so this was already set up on room which was great. Room was located on 5th floor of main buliding and was bright / clean. Bathroom large but shower/ area small. The view room was amazing evening watching sun go down and looking boats out in harbour.
The food was a struggle for us with two small kids. Breakfast was expensive main area so we had starbucks breakfast. Kids lunches by pool $8 for fries and chicken. No drink or icecream included. We substituted fries for fruit and they charge you additional $2 per child. Very expensive. Limited options on pool bar menu and charge you exta fries $4.50 ! Childrens menu offering no healthy options like pasta fruit etc
Main bar food lovely we had flatbread pizza which was delicious !
Kids club not opened every day so we did not get experience it. Disappointing.
Big thank you to Captain Dave giving my little girl tour of the boat ancored beside hotel pier.
Overall good value for money when booking the resort but pricey for food beverages and car parking $25 « less

- I was not impressed by anything this hotel had to offer. Check in was fine although the people behind the counter put on this fake "ritzy" persona. They would be better off not pretending and just be down to earth. The hotel is nothing great. The lobby is beachy and simple. I would say that even though I did notice a person in a wheelchair, I found this hotel to be very wheelchair "unfriendly". The property is mostly elevated and there are stairs everywhere. Elevators were so slow I would guess that there might have been someone hand cranking the up and down movement. Kidding aside, this hotel is not worth the money because it is not convenient to Sanibel or Captiva. It is located on the free side of the bridge so every time we wanted to eat at a great restaurant, we had to pay $6.00 to cross the bridge. This hotel is actually on the Ft. Myers side and that is nothing but trailer parks and moderate communities. The rooms at the hotel were outdated and musty. The hallways smelled of sewer water and the stairwells were worse. We were forced to use stairwells or we would have spent the whole vacation waiting for the elevator. We had a suite (room 350) The bed was a bit lumpy and the balcony had very old patio furniture on it. Too old and dirty to sit on! The food at the hotel is very very expensive and the pool bar staff is even more unfriendly than the front desk. At least they didn't fake their personalities. By the way, the fries don't come with the meal and they are $5.50! The pools were okay but they are just wading pools. None are deeper than 3'6". They also need to be updated with tile and coping. I felt that the whole time I was there, they wanted me to feel like I was lucky to be there and not that they should feel lucky that I chose their hotel. I usually stay at Hilton's and Marriott's and this property felt like they were above that and not even on Sanibel Island. Only positive comment for this property is the marina area. During the day they have 5 hammocks on a fake beach and at night you can watch the dolphins in the water, just don't forget to bring lots of bug spray! « less

- Sanibel Harbour Marriott was a nice get-a-way. My wife and I were able to spend time together and re-connect after two decades of wedded bliss. We enjoyed drinks at Charley's and The Cove Bar poolside. Candace and Lane were great waitresses. Thanks ladies for everything.
Dinner at the Courtside Restaurant was outstanding -- the food was simply great.
However, the show stopper was the Spa and Salon. My wife and I did the couple's massage and Sylvia provided me with "world-class service." What a rubdown! Then the next day, at my wife's urging, I received a facial treatment from Barbara. Wow -- as a "manly-man" -- I wasn't keen on getting lotion rubbed on my mug and cucumber place over my eyes, but the end result was remarkable. I wished that I could carry those two ladies on-tour with me.
The hotel provided unexpected services -- perferred setting on the dinner cruise, chocolates before dinner and botlle of champagne and strawberries to help us celebrate our wedding anniversary. This was a wonderful experience.
We had lunch on Sanibel Island -- Light House Cafe was nice and quaint. If you order the Black Chicken Ceasar Salad -- you'll probably lick your plate clean -- its that good.
I give the Resort high marks -- but to make the experience even more memorable .. I would suggest the following:
Consider a shuttle from the Resort to Sanibel Island. We spent $100 in taxi fees just to see one of the areas key attractions. Also, take another look at the food and beverage prices. While we were prepared to enjoy each others company and put our drinks and meals on the AMEX -- we did a double-take on $12 cocktails.
Those suggestions are made based on a wonderful experience with wonderful and polite hotel staff. It is not a criticism, simply a suggestion to make the guest coming back for more.
Thanks folks, my wife and I felt the love... « less
