- i loved loved loved this hotel i wish it was everywhere i traveled. Jennifer and Travis the owners i believe were so accomodating we had our tickets booked for when skybus went bankrupt they refunded our money for two days! bc we had to drive instead of fly . most hotels wouldnt do this!! we have been back one time since then and we have a trip booked there for july . rooms were so comfortable and clean grocery store was close and beach was closer! they let us use kayaks for free and there is a boat to rent. i will return every year to this hotel! i recomend it to everyone!!! absolutley loved it and i think you will too! « less

- I am an Investigator with CPS in Houston and really needed a quiet break from my job. I chose The Dolphin Inn because the reviews were great and the owners were wonderful when I called. The place did not disappoint!!! The room was clean, neat and quiet and the view was wonderful -- I stayed on the lagoon side and could just sit and relax by the water watching fish jump and actually saw a few dolphins. I was too early for the manatees but maybe next time. The owners are a welcome find. Most places you stay have managers that just do their job but The Dolphin Inn is run by the owners and they take great pride and care in their Inn and are very accomodaing and knowledgeable about the area. I have recommended and will continue to highly recommend this Inn to friends and family and plan to stay their again this year. « less

- We have been coming to FMB since 1998 but usually rent a house or condo.
We stayed at the dolphin inn over new year and after many years of travelling (and in some very expensive and excellent hotels) my wife and I said to each other we must finally get an account on tripadvisor and write a review as really wanted to give our opinion on this place.
Well, it was probably a waste of time because shellgirl9 has written almost exactly what we were going to say so make sure you read that review.
This hotel is right across the street from what we think is the best part of the beach and there are plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas available from the hotel to take over.
What I will do is paste in the last piece of the other review because I couldn’t have put it better:
“I think what impressed us most was the sincerity of the owners in their attempt to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Hospitality goes a long way, and this is one of the best experiences we have ever had in our travels “
We even sent Travis a postcard saying so, and we have never done that with a hotel before !! « less

- Had a wonderful time at the Dolphin Inn, the owner, Travis, was very nice and helpful. They really go out of the way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Yes, the hotel is old, but spotless. Same with the pool. You can borrow the kayaks to go along the waterway, for free-where can you find that at any other hotel? We rented Travis' boat for a day, (a lot of fun) and headed out to Lover's key. The room we stayed in, 11, had not been renovated yet, but we didn't mind; again, exceptionally clean and comfortable facility (no issues with beds, etc.). Having said that, don't stay there if you are a snob. This is a small, family-run hotel. The rates are great for what you get. My family loved the resident cats, the deck, hoping to catch a glimpse of the manatees or dolphins by the dock, walking to the beach. The rooms have adequate kitchens, everything worked, restaurants & grocery store nearby. (Movie theatre right next door). It's also very quiet. It's not the Ritz, but that's not the experience my family is looking for, we want "real" Florida, and that is what we get when we stay at the Dolphin Inn. We will be returning there again this year, and can't wait!**note: I think what impressed us most was the sincerity of the owners in their attempt to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Hospitality goes a long way, and this is one of the best experiences we have ever had in our travels. « less

- We stayed at the Dolphin Inn mid-January, 2010. Our room (#3 overlooking the pool) was a larger room and very accommodating. When we travel, we prefer to save when possible on lodging, since we spend our waking ours seeing what the area has to offer. We'd rather parlay the savings on lodging into all our meals out and a longer stay; as long as the place is clean and in decent condition, we're pleased. And the Dolphin Inn met our criteria.
No it's not a 4-star hotel (our room could certainly stand some updating, but the beds were very comfortable), but the location and service were most definitely 4-star. Travis was certainly quite friendly and very accommodating. The Dolphin Inn is located on the southern end of Estero Island -- the quiet part of the island, with not too much traffic, and with a wide, pristine beach. And being able to walk across the street to that beach was priceless!
The only downside to our trip was that the temperatures were a good 20 degrees cooler than normal, but that certainly wasn't the Dolphin Inn's fault. Besides, a chilly day on the beach is still better than a cold day back home (sub-zero lows with 4-6" of snow!).
We encountered no problems with the internet service (even used two laptops while there) or the cable service. We didn't use the kitchen (other than to wash the shells we gathered during our visit to Sanibel Island).
I'd certainly recommend the Dolphin Inn for travelers who are on a budget, who are looking for clean, no-frills lodging in a very excellent location on Estero Island. When we come back to the FMB area, we'll definitely stay at the Dolphin Inn again. « less
