Location. Located on 17 lush waterfront acres, the Marriott Bay Beach Resort Key Largo offers family-friendly fun and an array of amenities in Key Largo, Florida. A large section of Everglades National Park, Boggy Key, is just over one mile from the resort, separated from the island by a small strait. Outfitters located on the Keys offer water activities, including cave dives and parasailing.
Features . Gulf-side promenades and shady cabanas line the private beach fronting the resort, and an open-air day spa offers massage and body/facial treatments amid the soft bay breezes. The oversized pool stays open late, and is bordered by a sundeck with a jetted tub and a fountain. The resort offers a fitness center and supervised children's activities Wednesday through Sunday. Complimentary water shuttle service to and from a casino yacht anchored in international waters is provided. A conference room and business services are offered on site. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available throughout the public areas. On-site dining options consist of one restaurant and two bars with limited food menus. Other amenities include a game room and laundry facilities.

Guestrooms. Decorated in West Indies Caribbean style with dark wood, guestrooms offer cable television and complimentary Internet access. The two-bedroom bay-view suites offer kitchens.

Expert Tip. The Dolphin Research Center, two miles from the resort, allows visitors to swim and play with dolphins in a natural saltwater pool. Unless you just plan on watching, reservations should be made a least a few weeks in advance.

My wife and I stayed here for one night during the Christmas season. We had requested an early check-in on their website but could not check in until after 2:00 PM. It was not a big deal but the nice lady behind the desk gave us two coupons for a complimentary buffet breakfast for making us wait. When we got up to our room, we were very happy with the beautiful view of the beach and pool area, and the spaciousness of the room. We had a corner suite and the balcony was also spacious as it wrapped around the corner of the building. We immediately changed and went down to the pool and beach area. As I said earlier, the pool and beach area are very pretty but the only quibble with our stay is with the swimming areas. Both the pool and the beach were very crowded, and the beach is much smaller than depicted in the resort photos (and I'm not being hyperbolic when I say the beach is MUCH smaller than what one would expect from the resort photographs). One also has to get up pretty early to stake out a good location for your lounge/pool chair but that is a common problem at all resorts. So we skipped the pool/beach and spent most of our time up on our big balcony. One cannot see the sunset directly from the resort but we really enjoyed some amazing colours on the ocean surface as the sun passed behind the trees and buildings in the horizon.

Other cool things about the resort -- free parking, and free use of the business center, which includes access to the internet and a color printer. The business center consits of only one terminal so you may have to wait but at least it's free! There is also free use of a foosball table, a ping pong table and air hockey table. It rained a little bit in the evening so it was nice to have these games to pass the time.

The breakfast buffet turned out to be bountiful in both variety and abundance. It was also very delicious, especially the made-to-order omelettes. We had seats by the window with a nice view of the ocean.

I also forgot to mention that we had lunch at nearby Denny's Latin Cafe. I've had cuban sandwiches from dozens of places in Miami (including a few joints on Calle Ocho) and New York City, and Denny's Latin Cafe makes what I think are the very best ones! For dinner, we went to the nearby Fish House, which is also great. Great fresh seafood for reasonable prices! « less
