- We stayed here in March. We were very disappointed. The villa was not clean, the requests went unanswered. We decided to not ever go back. An event came up and we had to use Mariners again.
We were surprised. The villa was clean, we made a call to ask some directions the person on the other end was friendly. We told a security guard riding around what a pleasant difference this trip has been. He told us that Keys Caribbean was under new management and there were good changes being made. It shows. We will be back! « less

- This is "no resort", not even a hotel, just a series of privately owned, terraced town houses.
We had a ground floor two roomed apartment, whilst our family friends had the two floors above us, the size and layout of our rooms were cramped, although the bed was a respectable size and comfortable. the rooms on the floors above were more spacious and better laid out, although the furniture was tired.
Our arrival, we checked in with security, where you are given a code for a large padlock on the door of your allocated property, this contains your electronic key card and a seaparate brass "real key", but no instructions as to what the key fits, we tried every lock in the place and still did not know what it actually fitted. So we tried to ring Keys Carribean, the phone did not work, so it was back to security(as they are the only people on site, there is no reception area, no on site staff to ask/rectify problems) they put me through to the Keys Carribean manager, who said if the phones dont work, go behind the televisdion and unplug the wires for two minutes and replug them. needless to say there was no plug behind the television, but behind the sofa was a mass of wiring, needless to say, none of felt comfortable or willing to mess with all the electrics for fear to blowing something up or causing a fire.
Over the next 24 hours, we found problems with the toilets, hand basins and kitchen sink. No laundry facility, nowhere on site to buy food, snacks, and despite the Virgin brochure stating Bath robes, pool towels, tennis and basketball equipment, being available, none were. Eventually we were able to contact Keys Carribean, they took details of the problems and told us they would look into it, at the end of our stay seven days later, nothing had been done. We were told the brass key was for our laundry room but despite us telling them the key did not fit any lock in the property, no other key was provided, fortunately our friends upstairs had thier own washing machine and tumble drier we could use.
The free form pool was large, but unuseable for three days as contractors cut down every palm tree on site, with saw dust and debris choking the pool, even if you could block out the noise as you lay on the sun beds, the smell of two strokes oil was too much to bear after 15 minutes.
We were allocated a property with a "hammock view".....no hammocks, no garden just 10 feet of gravel with a 10 foot high hedge to hide the construction equipment for the on-site contractors. and of course a stunning view of the air condtioning motors raised 4 ft off the ground. The contractors were punctual every morning at 7am with mini diggers, wagons and such....
The brochure describes the fitness centre as "state of the art", that may have been 10 years ago when it was built and last updated..
On the morning we were to check out, the water supply to the comlex was cut off, so with 8 people wanting to bath/shower, wash etc, we left a little bit of a mess, but again no reply from Keys Carribean, we just had to leave a message on thier voice mail.
We have yet to see if we have incurred any,"daily charge" for services provided...
Overall...the site was very quiet, with few guests, and granted, refurbishment has to take place some time, but why not complete major tasks in the off-season. This "resort" would have been perfect in its hey-day, but it was not a pleasureable experience for us considering the £1300 we paid for a week there. and Keys Carribean could not have more unhelpful, no customer service satisfaction whatsoever I'm afraid. « less

- The townhouse accommodation was large but showing its age, with noisy air-con, broken lights, etc. There were no amenities on site. No restaurants or bars for miles in either direction along the busy highway, although our travel provider had promised otherwise. The large pool is 4ft at its deepest and there is nothing else to do. It is best described as a 'gated ghost town' and not many people are around, day or night. It was clean however, and the other good thing was that we didn't have to stay for more than one night as we were so unhappy there. No watersports are available on site either. We were too upset to take a photo. « less

- After finally finding the place (not realising that the Overseas Highway is split in two!) we became quite confused. To cut a long story short security, who are responsible for checking guests in, let us into the wrong apartment as incorrect keys had been left for us. It was a fantastic two bed with gorgeous furnishings, however, after Keys Caribbean (the management agents) turned up with the correct keys an full hour later they at first insisted we move to the one bed apartment downstairs, which was like a cave. We moved all our things back down two flights of stairs and had a bit of a moan to both the rep in front of us and the one in the office by phone about the mix-ups. Thirty minutes later Jennifer turned up saying that we were allowed to use the better apartment after all as a kind of apology for all the confusion! Not ideal for the stress levels.
The resort itself was really lovely and apparently has the largest pool in the Keys. The place was almost deserted in May and we had the pool and hot tub to ourselves. Our only real confusion was that our tour operator (Virgin) described the resort as having a restaurant - there is no kind of restaurant or bar at all. The nearest restaurant is Ballyhoos, a few hundred yards along the Highway but since it's such a busy road not really walkable.
Location wise the resort is ok - right next to the Overseas Highway but you can't hear it, and the apartment we had was quite far from the sea so no balcony views. I got the impression from one of the security guards that most of the rental apartments were not fantastically positioned within the complex.
There is no houskeeping service either which in a way was quite nice as we were left alone for the three days but it also means no clean towels / bathrooms for the duration of the stay. On the day we left the housekeeper turned up and hour and a half before we needed to vacate which was slightly awkward.
All in all the complex and the two bed apartment were fantastic and I would recommend them, but Keys Caribbeans' management from start to finish left a lot to be desired. « less Read management response to this review.

- This is one of the worst places I've stayed in ever. If you look at their website, you think you'll find yourself in a beautiful resort hotel on Key Largo. Hah, you wish. Mariner's Resort turns out to be a gated community of privately owned apartments. It is not -- and I repeat this: NOT -- a resort whatsoever. First of all, there's no place to check in. You'll find your keys in a box hanging from the door of your 'room'. We thought (and booked) this place as a hotel. Unfortunately, it is not -- and I repeat again, NOT -- a hotel. There is no maid service, you get towels once a week (which sucks if you haven't brought your own), there are no services at all on the property, and no one you can talk to if you're not happy about something (there's a number you can call: it went to voicemail...).
The 'townhouse' (602-1) we were in, was a dark, musty, old apartment, direly in need of maintenance (and a good cleaning). I don't know who owns it, but surely they must be great fans of Liberace; tacky doesn't even begin to describe how they decorated the place.
So in short, I would not recommend anyone to stay here!!! « less Read management response to this review.
