- I stayed in the hotel for 9 nights at the beginning of August to dive the various areas around Key Largo. I spent 8 days on dive boats with Ocean Divers which is right next door to the hotel and the dive operation at Ocean Divers is first rate. The diving was great and the boats were great.
The rooms at Marina Del Mar are a little dated but I found the room satisfactory. The bed was comfortable and the AC was fine which is good enough for me on a dive trip. The room also had a small refrigerator which allowed some drinks and snacks which was great for after diving while you were cleaning your gear.
The largest problem was trying to park anywhere near your room. They evidently planned the hotel with street parking in addition to the parking on property and the city has banned street parking. When the City cut street parking it looks like it cut the available parking to way less spots than the hotel has rooms and parking is a mess. If you get in your car to go out to dinner or go anywhere during the day you will not have a spot when you come back. If you have stuff to carry up to the room it is crazy. One other small problem was that the hotel does allow pets and the room next door had a dog that barked constantly until late in the evening. The owners left the dog and went to dinner and there is no way to turn in early when you have a barking dog in the room next to you.
The hotel also claims to have Internet service but it only works in or close to the lobby.
If I return to dive with Ocean Divers I will try to find a hotel with parking. « less

- We stayed at the Marina Del Mar for two weeks and were comfortable overall. We had a one-bedroom suite that included a queen-sized Murphy bed for our daughters. The almost full-sized kitchen had a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and small sink. There is no stove, dishwasher, or oven. Plates and utensils for 4 are included. The bathroom was especially nice as it has two sinks and the toilet/shower area has its own door.
Check-in was easy as we arrived in the middle of the day, but beware that the office closes at 10:30 p.m. We did not have experience with late check-in. We booked each week of our stay separately through hotels.com just in case we decided to change locations after the first week. The first week was going to be double beds and the second week was for a one-bedroom suite. The desk clerk at check-in was nice enough to upgrade our room to the one-bedroom suite for the entire stay. I have yet to see if her promise of ‘no extra charge’ is true.
THE GOOD:
LOCATION – right on mile marker 100. Convenient to Pennekamp State Park, Glass bottom boat, Pleasure Divers dive charter, other dive shops, Walgreens, Divers Direct, other shopping. The hotel is off the main highway, but there are some motorcycle riders who live in the surrounding neighborhood who like to gun their engines late at night, every night.
AMENITIES - Nice beds, pillows, bathroom supplies, ceiling fans, pool area with hotel-supplied beach towels and plenty of chairs, Jacuzzi
BREAKFAST - included cinnamon rolls, French toast, waffles, cereal, milk, fruit, and juice. Peanut Butter and jelly, plus bread, was provided so you could also pack a lunch.
DINING – Some locals told us not to bother dining at the over-priced Coconut’s, so we didn’t. They recommended Sharky’s instead, which is located at the other end of the resort. In fact, the best meal I had in two weeks was in the upstairs restaurant at Sharky’s. Don’t miss the all you can eat Friday fish fry. Two more excellent restaurants are close-by at around mile maker 97-98: Mrs. Mac’s and Sus Casas. The fresh yellowtail or the skirt steak is a must have at Sus Casas.
THE MEDIOCRE:
Hard, tile floors everywhere but in bedroom which is carpeted.
Unreliable HOUSEKEEPING – The first week the housekeeping was great, but it drastically declined during the second week. The beds were always made, but sometimes the bathroom amenities (shampoo, etc.) were not restocked. We went for 4 days with no new shampoo or soap. We did our own dishes but the housekeepers only wiped the table and counter half the time. I got so tired of the black scuffs and fingerprints on the walls from previous guests that I washed them off myself. We were only given three sets of towels for four guests. After I got extras, they were later removed from the room and not replaced.
WI-FI - only guaranteed in lobby and small breakfast area. We were able to connect through an unencrypted server nearby.
BREAKFAST – no protein items such as meat or eggs. During the second week the orange juice machine was ‘broken’ so they served extremely watered down juice from a pitcher.
PARKING - inadequate for the number of guest rooms but some covered parking is available if you get there early enough.
BALCONY – shared. You can lay out scuba gear to dry, but there was a lot of traffic from adjacent rooms. We had a unit on the end so both our sleeping areas were next to other doorways, leading to noise at all hours.
THE BAD:
PETS – this hotel allows small pets. That could equal a small barking dog in the room next to yours!
PLUMBING – Our toilet was ‘fixed’ twice but it did not work correctly for the entire stay. It flushed very slowly and we had to hold the handle down the entire time. The shower also leaked quite badly. We had to stuff a towel next to the curtain to keep water from flooding the floor.
ANTS AND COCKROACHES – our room had a problem with ants even though we kept everything meticulously wiped down. Also, every time I turned a light on in the middle of the night, I saw cockroaches scatter. I killed one and by morning it was covered with ants and there were two ant trails leading to cracks in the walls. We decided to leave it there for housekeeping to see. I think they sprayed after that because the ant problem got better.
LAUNDRY - we were assured, by the office manager no less, that although their prices were high, our laundry would be much more safe while we went to dinner because we ‘had the only key’. We came back to find our laundry sitting on the table in a wet pile and another family using the laundry facilities. When we complained, the same office manager told us that there were in fact two keys and that we weren’t supposed to leave our laundry unattended. She seemed unphased by the fact that she had lied to us to get us to do our laundry on-site at their over-priced facility. Very disappointing. There are only two washers and two dryers. Save yourself the hassle and do your laundry around the corner near the Family Dollar.
ICE MACHINES – not one ice machine worked in the entire complex during our two weeks on the property. « less

- The photos are pretty goo for this place but in reality its more like 3 or 4 apartment blocks put together. Access the rooms from outside and parking is limited. I had two queen size beds and an outdated bathroom. Could be upgraded but not too bad for price and location.
Unfortunately I was at the other end of the motel. I was closer the next door motels bar, a bar that had a live band! Pretty loud till about 2330!
The best bit was the bar on water. Overall, would be good to stay at for a nights stay as there isn't much to do during the day at Key Largo anyway that would make u want to stay 2 nights. Not saying it was beautiful, just limited what to do. « less

Since I am a school teacher our mini-honeymoon had to be someplace relatively close b/c we were only going for 3 days. We were taking our real one over xmas in disney. I booked this resort thru a package with AAA. I had never been to the Keys before, and was excited to go.
We had a late arrival from a delayed flight on sat. When I went to check in the lobby was closed. We had to "page" the night manager and waited almost a half hour for someone to arrive. IT was very difficult to find the actual hotel because there are 3 in the same location.
We found the room we were in to be odd. It was a pulldown bed with a junky mattress in a room with kitchenette and couches. Not romantic at ALL!! It seemed more like an efficiency at the Jersey Shore. The place was a bit dirty and our doors wouldn't lock. The next morn I had us changed to a different room. It was the same layout and conditions. The room was very worn looking. The only thing cool was the outside view looking at the Marina
We never stayed at the hotel much or ate there. We ate in Key largo the next day after a snorkeling adventure. That was really cool and the boat was right there in the hotel marina.
On Sunday we drove to Key West and spent the day there..
Overall I would say this place is a dump. I would never go back here for a romantic getaway. Maybe just a place to flop. « less

We got a studio because we needed extra space due to a third person. This turned out to be a great idea, Full kitchen, dinette, love seat, 2 murphy beds and a 2 sink bathroom with privacy door to the toilet and shower.
The view was nice. We were on the fourth floor facing the marina. The room had sliding glass doors onto a small balcony.
The breakfast is your basic continental...no fruit though.
The pool is large and the hot tub is small.
Overall it was pretty good. « less
