Location. Universal's Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, Fla., is located on the premises of Universal Studios Orlando. The hotel is within one-half mile of Wet 'n Wild and two miles from International Drive. Special theme park benefits include Universal Express ride access to bypass regular lines at most attractions and rides, complimentary resort-wide transportation via water taxis or shuttle buses and priority seating at select Universal Orlando restaurants.
Hotel Features. The seven-story hotel displays a vintage 1956 Chevy and a giant fountain with 42 guitars spouting water towards the ceiling. The California-style mission architecture and rock memorabilia displayed throughout the hotel exhibit the soul, spirit and attitude of rock and roll. The hotel offers an enormous heated pool with a sandy beach, 240-foot slide and 12 underwater sound speakers. The Workout Room features an exercise equipment studio, steam rooms, sauna and spa tub. Guests have access to the hotel's Golf Universal Orlando program. Kids activities are available at Camp Lil' Rock, the hotel's supervised children's activity center. Evenings bring movies under the stars at the hotel's weekly poolside "dive-in" movies. Dining options include buffet-style breakfasts at The Kitchen, poolside cocktails at Beachclub and the famed New York steakhouse, The Palm.

Guestrooms. Guestrooms decorated with chocolate brown and lime green tones that include rock and roll artwork. Amenities include 32-inch, flat-screen televisions, high-speed Internet access for a fee and CD players. Bathrooms boast dual sinks, makeup mirrors and Bloom toiletries. Club Level guestrooms offer special amenities in The Hard Rock Club Lounge such as a complimentary breakfasts, evening hors d'oeuvres and an extensive music library.

Expert Tip On the last Thursday of each month (excluding November and December), you can enjoy live music at the hotel's "Velvet Sessions," Orlando's only rock and roll cocktail party. Past performers included Joan Jett, Foreigner and The Go-Go's.

Great hotel with good, friendly staff. The communal areas blare excellent old school tunes with loads of TV screens playing the videos.

The room was quite spacious, very clean with an ok bathroom. The corridors leading to the room were very well air conditioned to say the least, in fact they were freezing cold. Breakfast was expensive and not brilliant so maybe try it out one day and go elsewhere for the rest of your stay.

The pool area was lovely, the pool bar really nice but didn't spend that much time there. The Velvet bar in the hotel was also a great place to chill, must say that on first night the hotel was holding it's monthly rock concert (velvet sessions) and we weren't allowed to enter the bar, had a bit of a moan to the manager and was lead straight in. We were really grateful and must say thank you to the desk manager (didn't get her name) for sorting this out for us.

The hotel is part of the Universal complex and you can simply walk to the parks in 5 minutes and also to the City Walk nightlife area. The parks were surprisingly dated, particularly the original park. They were quite empty so didn't have to queue for the rides which was a massive bonus. I also think it's about time to change the Jaws boat ride, it is rubbish! Went to Emerils one evening, a supposed decent restaurant in City Walk, we had the tasting menu, it was overpriced and not very good. Go to Hard Rock Cafe instead, much better value for money.

The hotel's fantastic location to Universal means its location to Disney isn't great and as we weren't driving didn't bother going this time, hopefully will get back soon. We did go to Sea World, again quite empty so didn't have to queue for the two fantastic roller coasters, two of my favourite in Orlando. Obviously went to see Shamu, so hearing the shocking news of the death of Dawn Brancheau was awful. We saw her in the show just two weeks ago. I'm sure the show will go on though. Whether you agree with holding these truly magnificent animals in captivity, or not, it is very special to just get the chance to see them.

Also went to Busch gardens. An organised coach picked us up at Unversal and it took about 1.5 hours to get there. Once again, it was quiet so no queues. The tigers were a highlight as was the ride called Sheikra.

If you like shopping there's a fantastic outlet called Orlando Premium Outlets, the last stop on the I-Drive trolley bus, got loads of stuff from Diesel, Levi, Armani and DKNY with a 75% reduction.

The Hard Rock hotel is a decent, clean, friendly hotel that will not disappoint. Have fun!
