- This is hard because the Marriott really tried to make us happy and yet I am finding myself rating it 3 stars. Why?
Well... day 1, we arrive at midnight. I check in, everyone was super nice. We get our room. The room was wonderfully located. We open the door and immediately my bf says "Don't come in, Don't come in!!!!" (I seriously thought he saw a dead body or something!). Come to find out he said that because there was a HUGE cockroach right at the entry way inside the room. I have a tremendous fear of cockroaches and he knew this so he tried to keep it from me. I handled it well though, called the front desk and the Marriott said they would take care of it immediately and they did.
A woman came with a can of raid and sprayed around. Now I understand this is Florida where cockroaches are equivalent to rabbits where I live, but that's beside the point. I still don't want to sleep with them.
Day 2. We didn't know it but they had ordered a real exterminator! He came in with the hard core stuff and started spraying. I was talking to him and telling him how FL was weird because we had our AC on 63 all night (and I am someone who is ALWAYS cold) and that it still felt the same as when we walked in. He told us that the other rooms were much cooler and that we should call the front desk because it is not typical. So I call. They say they'll send someone immediately. Someone came eventually but it kept us from going out and starting our day of our 6 day vacation so we got a really late start. He said something was wrong with the AC and he fixed it.
Day 3 We found another cockroach in the kitchen. I seriously had to wash everything before using it.
Day 4 I'm taking a shower and my eyes are shut and all of the sudden I hear a weird noise while lathering my hair. I open my eyes and the shower had a hole in the tube and was squirting water at the roof. Within seconds the stream became huge so I hurried up and rinsed my hair out and got out and called the desk (trust me I am NOT high maintenance and I was embarrassed to call again!) They said they would send someone immediately, and they did. Problem was the 2 people with me hadn't taken a shower yet. The bathroom was SOAKED. The maintenance guy came, said the hose was old and changed it, meanwhile he tracked his shoes through the puddle and the floor became filthy (not his fault I know). So then we all wait for them to clean it so they can shower and nobody comes. After 2 hours and another late start of our 6 hour trip my bf decides to sop up the water with the towels that we had and take a shower. He took one and so did my son. The maid didn't come until much later. When the maid did come they failed to provide us with the things that we lost in the shower explosion, like new toilet paper because it was completely soaked and we didn't have anymore, also we didn't get enough towels. I could have called again.
Day 5 another cockroach, flipped over dead.
Other than that I really don't know what to say. We were rushing on this vacation to begin with, because there's so much to see in Orlando, and yet 2 out of the 6 days were started extremely late because of how long it took them to fix stuff and when you're dealing with Disney World park hopping tickets this was not cool. Also, the place could have been cleaner. The floors weren't very clean. I want to like this place, because they tried hard, but I can't. I LOVED our room. The location was amazing! Everyone that worked there was nice. Once I was carrying a bag of trash and a worker rushed to me and took it (that's worth 3 stars instead of 2) but too much went wrong and I was fine with the fact that stuff happens until the shower incident. « less

- We recently stayed at the Grande Vista in Orlando as part of an encore presentation for the Marriott's Vacation Club. As the title says, the resort is very nice, but have stayed at better hotels in the past.
Traveled with family, to include two children. The resort is very large, so the initial room that was provided was away from the center of the resort. Therefore, if we wanted to go to the main pool or kids themed pool, a "five minute walk" was in store. We ended up switching rooms.
Rooms are very spacious. Ours had two bedrooms, a dining room, kitchen, laundry, and jacuzzi tub in master bedroom. Rooms included flat screen tv's and dvd player. Room was clean, however first room that we did not stay in had some wear and tear.
Resort has multiple pools to include a kids pool, which water canons for the kids. Only used two of the pools.
Numerous activities are offered. Some are complimentary, so have a fee. Prices are comparable to other hotel prices.
While resort is nice and would recommend, have stayed at better resorts that are geared towards activities for kids. « less

- My family of 5 stayed at this resort for a week at the end of July. The resort is beautiful, and well cared for. We had a three bedroom suite, on the 1st floor of the Madrid building. The location was great, a little noisy at night because it is so close to the pool and bar, but not too bad. We loved this resort, they had activities going on all the time, for all ages and interests. The Hawaiian Luau show was great. Our only complaint would be that we arrived at 330, and didn't get our room until 745pm! This was difficult for our three children who had been in the car all day and wanted to have space to relax etc. The room was very spacious, and comfortable. Our only issue was the AC did not work in the third bedroom. We kept the door open and it was ok. « less

- You may or may not have read a 'not so awesome' review from me on this hotel. We have since visited here as a compl stay to make up for some problems we had the last time. Anyhow, this time the trip was awesome! This time around the people were extremely nice and helpful! The room was really great (we got the 1BR/1BA room) The pool area is really nice. Have nothing bad to say about this visit! Ohh, and they added a spa since the last time I went, that was nice. « less

- Despite all the red flags from our first stay, we decided to give it another shot. We love all-inclusives and this resort offers the no need to leave characteristics. Unfortunately, they just don't quite get it. The best way to describe this resort is it is like a mirage. You can see what you want, but just can't seem to get there. A few examples of the small but more than anoying issues. On every floor there seems to be a centralized located cleaning locker. Every morning (early) the maid gets started by opening the door and letting it slam shut. Not just once or twice, but at least once every minute. When you come to a resort like this it is to relax and SLEEP LATER than you would while at home going to work everyday. During our last stay, the cleaning crew began steam cleaining the carpets at 05:30 (yes 5:30 in the morning). We happened to be checking out that day and stood behind others who also complained. We also complained about the early morning activities. Neither of us received so much any consolation. Item 2: You constantly need to call to the front desk to have people bring things that should be in the room. (i.e. no (yea ZERO) towels. You can have a TV in you room but don't expect batteries for the remote. There is a full kitchen, but no hot pad. (Seems superficial until you realize that you have something in the oven with no way to retrieve it.) Item 3: Very quick to close the pools due to wx, but not so quick to re-open. I write this understanding that this is an issue of safety, however, they appear to be VERY conservative on the issue while not so conservative about the room rates. Speaking from the point of view of someone that is required to shut projects down due to wx, They are extremely conservative. If you come, you better hope that there is no rain in the area (highly unlikely for Orlando). The pool will be shut down from 2:30 until 6:30 everyday during rainy season. Although, the pool should be shut down for safety reasons some of this time, not the whole time that a black cloud is in the area. It appears that is too inconvenient to re-open the pool as wx permits. Long story short, the general attitude from hotel staff. Too bad, you are here, you have paid and there is nothing you can do about it. Just for reference point, I spend approximately 50 nights a year at Marriotts. I am also not a nitpicky traveler, I just wish to be treated as a customer. « less
