- First let me give you a heads up, the place has changed it's name to Knight's Inn instead of Super 8.
I read the other reviews and can only figure the place must have changed hands in the past couple years because I found it to be pretty decent.
Okay it's not the Holiday Inn Sunspree or any of the other fancy places across the street but for only $49 per room you really can't complain much.
Yeah the elevator was arthritic and the whole place could do with a few coats of paint, but overall the place was clean, comfortable and nice.
The lady who checked us in couldn't be nicer. Parking was plentiful and the location was convenient to everything. Restaurants, shopping and a beach access right across the street.
If all you're looking for is a basic room to sleep, shower and hit the beach you found it here. « less

- I am not a very picky traveler but this place was a dump. I could have even forgiven that fact but the daytime staff was rude also. To their credit, the overnight staff at the front desk was nice enough. They checked me in efficiently and politely.
I only saw 2 other guests during my stay, which was right after Hurricane Gustav. This place definitely was not swamped with guests, and no wonder. Other nicer hotels in the area had plenty of Gustav refugees.
I checked in here at 2am on a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning awaiting my flight out of Panama City on Thursday morning and I was ok about paying for 2 nights even though I was only there for 26 hours total. I left early Thursday at 4am for my flight. This isn't really my issue with this motel but thought it was worth mentioning.
Even though I am a member of a rewards club that includes Super 8, and they knew this, I wasn't treated very well. I have always liked Super 8's in the Midwest U.S. but this one was horrible.
There were holes in doorframes, rat hair in the Kleenex, everything about this place was dark and dingy and scary. It is in dire need of some kind of upgrade. I inspected for bugs and did see one cockroach in my bathroom but in Florida this isn't so unusual.
The pool didn't look too bad, and the ocean is right across the street. There is a Waffle House next door and a strip mall with a couple of restaurants nearby also.
Where I really got irritated was with the daytime staff on Wednesday of my stay. I walked into the lobby and the desk clerk was chatting amiably with another person in the lobby. They were both lounging in the lobby chairs, and seemed annoyed that I interrupted them.
What I needed was a laundry facility and a computer I could use to check my next day's flight. Neither was available and the lounging desk clerk seemed surprised that anyone would even need such amenities!! She was rude about it too (probably because I interrupted her personal chat). What a loser motel.
I would recommend staying anywhere but here, although there WAS a worse looking local type motel nearby. The Holiday Inn Sunspree across the street is fantastic, and I was staying there until a personal issue with my roommate forced me to leave abruptly. If not for that personal issue, I would never have picked this Super 8 for a stay!!
I will say that Super 8's in the midwest aren't nearly this bad, in fact they are usually awesome!! So do give Super 8 a try, just not in Panama City Florida!! « less

- Visit dates 5/24-5/26/08.
All the sites showed this property booked, so I called them directly and they had rooms available. Paid $99/night plus tax.
Rooms were very clean, staff was super friendly and helpful, fridge/microwave standard in room with our 2 double beds. Cable tv/hbo.
Hotel has continental breakfast in the mornings which consists of coffee/tea/juices/packaged donuts/bagels.
It is not the Ritz or Marriott, but the place is clean and a super location so close to the beach. You can see the beach/ocean/waves from the rooms; you can literally walk across the street to the beach. Location is dead on the strip with shops, restaurants, and bars in literally walking distance.
No complaints from us!
My hubby and our 9 y/o daughter thought it was a great place to stay. « less

- i drove to panama city beach a couple of days ago just to get away. it was a last minute decision and i knew not making hotel reservations was probably not a good idea. i was on a limited budget and stopped at the holiday inn sunspree (across the street from super 8) since i had stayed there a couple of months ago and loved it. they wanted $115 for one night. that was a little out of my price range (but still a good deal, the hotel is nice and all of the rooms have a view of the gulf)
so i decided to hit super 8 across the street. i was tired, it was 11pm. i pulled in and almost lost control of my vehicle at 5mph from the huge drop off and potholes. i walked into the rather small area where the front desk was and i got a room for $49. i got my room key and parked next to the elevator. i was the only car in the parking lot. there was absolutely no one staying at the hotel whatsoever, i felt kind of creeped out. from the looks of the elevator itself and its surroundings, i didn't feel like dying so i took the stairs. paint peeling off the walls/steps... paint was faded on the hotel room doors. i got up to the third floor and entered my room.
the a/c was on full blast so it felt like i was walking into a freezer. upon sitting down my bags the smoke alarm kept chirping every minute or so. i had to remove the battery. the room itself was pretty clean, but visibly old and worn. the ceiling had previously been a popcorn ceiling, but obviously had been sanded and plastered sloppily. the walls were a nauseous green color and in bad condition. the toilet had old urine on the side of it and acted like it was going to flood over before finally deciding to flush. the shower looked to be from the 60s with old hardware and took literally 10 minutes to warm up. the walls around the shower were falling apart and cracking. the bathroom door did not close properly. the corner of the vanity had been sawed off to allow for the bathroom door to even open.
at 5am, i was shaken awake by what sounded to be firecrackers in the parking lot next door. i did have an ok view of the ocean from the third floor, only seeing it between the two buildings across the street. later that morning i turned in my room key only to be presented with "thank you"... no receipt, nothing.
for $49 across the street from the gulf, it was an okay deal. i wouldn't stay here again though, i didn't feel safe, the room had that creepy feel to it (similar to the movie "vacancy"), i felt more like i was staying in the middle of an old country town instead of on a beach.

- The first problem was when I went online to book the room. Every time I hit book it, it told me that i needed to come back later. When I called to confirm and make sure all was well before we left, they had booked me for 3 rooms. Then told me they could not cancel the 2 extra rooms and that I needed to go back online and cancel them.
When we arrived at the motel, the first odor to hit us in the lobby was cigarette smoke very thick. My husband asked if they had a rest room in the lobby and we were told no. We went on up to our room and it was horrible. It had a perfumed over stale cigarette smoke odor. The microwave refrigerator coffee pot was sitting under the rod that should have been used for our clothes. There were cigarette burns in the carpet. We were in there less that 10 minutes and the three of us walked out feeling very sick. Physically sick. We all three had headaches and were very light-headed. We left to find another room in another motel. When my husband told the clerk of the condition of the room, he only said that it was a non -smoking room. Well my husband took pictures of the cigarette burn in the carpet so we know someone broke those rules. I will never stay at another Super 8 and will write to the various motel services and ask that this motel be taken off their list so as not to ruin their reputations, If you read the other reviews on this site you will see that most of the reviews are terrible. They even had the gall to take my money for the one night. I wonder how many other people get taken by this motel in a years time.
