- We arrived at Gulf Crest on July 24th. We have stayed here before in a three bedroom condo and loved the location and the layout of the condo. We stayed on the 22nd floor in a 3 bedroom on the end. No luggage carts to be found had to lug all belongings up by hand via three very hot trips. The first thing we noticed was that the bed in the back bedroom had a headboard that was broken off from the frame. It was flopping against the glass that lined the back wall. I called the lady that we rented from and she told me to call maintenance. My husband and dad ended up moving it into the utility room and mainenance picked it up the next day. The condo had ceramic tile throughout and our feet were black. It looked like the floor had not been mopped in a very long time. I found a mop and bucket and got some floor cleaner and got to work. It took me about 35 minutes not what I wanted to be doing the first day of vacation. The condo was sparse in utensils. No spatula, very few glasses, no wine opener ect. The balcony is wonderful and she had plenty of chairs for everyone to sit. It extends around on three sides so everyone has a balcony off of their bedroom which is very nice. The first night we lay in bed and I kept hearing a constant beeping noise. I finally woke up and forgot about it but the next night same thing. I got up to investigate and noticed a safe in the bathroom closet in the master bedroom that had an orange light that was constantly beeping. My husband told me to again call the lady we rented from to find out why the safe was beeping since it was very annoying when you are trying to sleep. She called maintenance who looked at it shook their head, couldn't help us, and left never to be heard from again. My husband (who is very ingenious) took a piece of plastic and pressed on the buttons on the safe and wedged it to the door handle so it would stop beeping. The only other issue was the elevators. Towards the end of the vacation we were in the living room and the power went out for a split second. A few minutes later we heard the intercom in the room go off and you could hear the front desk telling the people trapped in the elevator not to panic help was on the way. The last day Friday we were down in the pool towards evening and the same thing happened the lights went out for a second. When we went to the elevator to head back upstairs there was a lady yelling in the elevator that they were trapped and could someone please get help. I located a security guard who when we left him was trying to contact maintenance who had left for the day to advise him on what to do.
Overall I have stayed at Gulf Crest in the past and really loved it. I would recommend it because I think with our experience it was just one of those things that could happen in any condo unit you go to. The pools were nice with a tiki bar if you wanted to get a drink. There was a reserved parking space (even though someone was in ours when we arrived and I had to go to the front desk and ask them to notify the people to move the car). It is a nice complex, very close to attractions and the layout of the condos are very nice. « less

- We had a family reunion vacation at Gulf Crest, and rented over 10 rooms. I speak for all 15 plus families - it was great!! The negative reviews are completely undeserved and credited only to the fact that complainers are more likely to write reviews than those with positive experiences. The rooms were clean, spacious and well decorated. The pools were never crowded. The staff was friendly. We had no problem getting chairs poolside. Parking was fine. It is within walking distance to mini-golf, go karts, and restaurants, and less than a mile from Signal Hill Golf Course. All rooms had high speed internet, tvs in every room with dvd players and large kitchens. They even volunteered to give us a discount based on speculation that oil may arrive during our trip (which fortunately it did not). We stayed the week before July 4th and have already booked to go back. All 15 families loved it. We had over 40 people in one three-bedroom for dinner and had plenty of room. I love the wrap around balconies on the end units so you can panaramically see the beach, side view and front of hotel. Weight room was functional, not overly impressive. We stayed in PCB for years, and this was by far one of the best places we've stayed!! Please do not believe all the critical reviews. « less

- I rented from Jon Caldwell from Emerald Coast Destinations in 2008 and 2009.Hope to rent from him this year.He went out of his way to get us beach chairs and an umbrella so we didn't have to lug ours down there or pay for the beach service chairs, which saved us alot of money. The condos were nice,Loved the two big pools and 2 big hot tubs and huge balconies.Thre are lots of loungers and the pool so it isn't hard to find some.As far as people leaving towels all day to reservr the chairs,if I needed one I would go ahead and remove their towels, though I have never had to do that.I really like Gulfcrest and there is plenty of room on the beach.I don't like being crowded so this is very nice,Seaneen from Louisiana « less

- We rented what we thought was a penthouse condo on the 22nd floor at Gulf Crest. We rented from Jon Caldwell from Emerald Coast Destinations. First I must say the pictures he posted on vrbo.com of this condo are not of this condo!! This was by far the filthiest place I have ever seen. The first night we rented blow up mattresses because the mattresses and bedding were so nasty and stained that I didn't want my children to sleep on them. The floors were so dirty that you couldn't go bare footed without your feet turning black. There were skillets left in the cabinets that still had egg on them. My husband had to take the doors off the tracks of the showers and clean mold out just to give our children a bath. There was a bucket left under the kitchen sink to catch a leak that had to be cleaned out or the water would stink terribly. The wash cloths in the pantry looked like cleaning cloths. When we contacted Jon Caldwell at Emerald Coast Destinations he sent an "emergency cleaner" the next day to try and clean the condo. We had to leave the condo so they could bleach the floors and she said they were so dirty it probably would not help!! They did give us new bedding and some towels but the place has not been cleaned in months. Jon Caldwell did not want to give us any type of compensation for our troubles. He was not very apologetic or concerned that he had put a huge damper on our vacation. There were others who said they rented straight from the owner and their condo's were beautiful. I would never rent from Jon Caldwell again. He is more than happy to take your hard earned money and rent filthy condos in return! The other condos at Gulf Crest seem to be really nice and the resort has a nice pool. JUST BEWARE OF RENTING FROM JON CALDWELL!!!!!!!(AT ANY RESORT). « less

- We stayed at Gulfcrest from July 4th to July 11th. We had a wonderful time. It was very busy when we got there on July 4th, we kind of expected that due to it being a holiday. We only talked to the woman at the front desk once, that was to get our parking pass and wrist bands, she was very nice and helpful. We never once wore our wrist bands, nobody ever asked for them the whole time we were there. The first day the elevators were very congested, the longest we waited was 15 minutes. After that weekend was over they were not bad at all, but I wish they were air conditioned as it could get very hot in them. We were never able to get a luggage cart, we heard that people actually kept them in their rooms so they would have them when they checked out. I cant believe how rude some people are. I suggest that if you rent a condo you do it directly from the owner, not the resort. We booked unit #1204 from Eileen Meyer on VRBO and it was beautifully decorated, very clean, everything in working order. They have great furniture in the condo and out on the balcony. We didnt use the pools at all, although they looked nice. We always wonder why people go to the beach and then sit up at the pool all day. We can do that at home! It was a very easy process to rent from Eileen. We sent e-mails back and forth, she was very helpful and sent my deposit check back right after we got home. We were out on the beach several times at night, then came back in through the pool area, the security guard never bothered us. Our parking spot was right by the parking garage elevator which was nice. I like the location of this complex, I would not want to be farther down were it is so crowded. I would recommend condo #1204 to anyone, she also has several other condos there. We took our laptop with us to keep in touch with our family back home, we appreciated the high speed internet that was included. If you want to stay here, do it through her. We had a wonderful and relaxing vacation, and we cant wait to go back again. « less
