Had we had more time when we checked in, we would have gone to the front office and immediately checked out. As it was, we were heading to Lakeland for a show and didn't have time to go hotel shopping.

The room was not one of the suites, which is what I'm guessing that the other reviewers are rating. Those go for $149/night if you are seeing a show there and tell them that, otherwise, they go for $199/night. Given the shape of the room we stayed in, I cannot fathom a room at the Red Rose Inn being worth $149/night, much *less* $199.

The couch was stained in several places, the carpet dirty, there were permanent indentations in the carpet from previous furniture. The next morning, when getting into the shower, I noticed that the shower head was nasty with mold.

When I went to the front desk upon checking out and told the clerk about the permanent indentations in the carpet from furniture sitting on it for years, she told me that they had recently remodeled. I said, that might explain the carpet but it does not explain the stains on the sofa or the mold in shower. To her credit, she did write this down to give to housekeeping to fix, though, somehow I don't think housekeeping can fix the indentations in the carpet.

I booked through Red Rose Inn and Suites website (and it's a MOTEL btw) and paid $99. On the lighted sign out front, however, it advertised it for $69. I didn't see that until we were leaving for our show. Well, the next morning, after discovering the shower head, I decided I wasn't paying $30 more than the going rate stated on their sign.

They did honor my request for a rate reduction, the only thing done right at this place. I asked why it was so much more and was told, and I kid you not, "when you book it through the web, those places charge us". When I pointed out that I booked THROUGH THE HOTEL'S WEBSITE, she didn't have an answer, but did refund $30. She said that to get the best rate, you need to call rather than book through the internet. Funny, but the website didn't say to call for best rate. Seems like a case of price gouging to me. I can't help but hope that people staying there will see the sign and not pay the internet price. As it was, I think $69 was too much for the one night we stayed there. I think that half that would be more in line with the quality, or rather lack thereof, of the room we stayed in. « less
