- Booked for a bike event. Were not advised that event had been cancelled until after arriving with friends, None of the planned events occured including the putting contest for $10,000.00. Received coupons for drinks around pool, buy one get one free, five dollars for a can of coke, again a con or ripoff. No one knew anything about the event, the person who sent out the adds was not on the property. Will never recommend or return to this property. « less

- I was hesitant to book a stay at the Sundial based on other poor reviews. However, I could not pass up the rates especially for the size room we were looking for to accomodate our family. Stayed in the Grande Coastal. It was huge close to 1,500 square feet. 2 bedrooms 2 full baths a dining room and living room with a separate den that could be shut off. The master had a small porch, standing room only. But the porch off the living room was huge. Defienetely the best value in Southwest Florida and I searched hotels and resorts from Marco up to Captiva before booking. The furnishings were not brand spanking new and the TVs were not flat screens, but everything was clean and comfortable. Parking was very convenient. View of the gulf was beautiful.
The property is split up into 4 or 5 seperate buildings, each having its own pool. Then there is a main pool with a bar and outdoor restaurant. The beach was beautiful. Yes there were seashells and seaweed on parts of the beach but "newsflash" it is a beach!!! There is plenty of sand to set up towels and beach chairs were complimentary, The staff were all helpful and friendly.
In my opinion, the other negative posters either have way to high of expectations or are delusional. This place was not the Ritz but it is not a dollar motel either. If you want Ritz quality then stay at the Ritz and pay Ritz prices. The amenities at the Sundial were clean comfortable and more than acceptable and we will be returning next summer. « less

- Well, lets start saying while pulling into the resort drive. Not knowing where to go to check in, i see at the stop sign a man who i guess was a maintenence worker who had his shirt tails out of his pant and sleeves rolled up with his gross tattoo's showing not to mention his boot laces were not tied while leaning against a golf cart talking to another worker! And to top it off he was smoking a cigarette!!!! ILL!!!!! My husband was going to ask him where to check in but we didnt like the looks of that shady fella at all!! We drove around the parking lot not knowing where to go until we saw a ramp, and what do you know we found the front doors. We walked in and got no response's at all from the young ladies at the desk and not to mention they were down and out rude! I dont recall my room number but we were in the D building, I know this because I kept telling my husband it was for DISASTER! Well anyway the room was filthy! It is amazing the GM of this place still has a job! The pool was nice and the food was ok at best and the bar was nice but the drinks were very weak and very expensive! Now for the beach, BLAH! Filthy! Why are they not cleaned? Are rakes and trash bags too expensive? I just could not wait to go home! It is a real shame a place in such a great location looks like this. I will never come back. « less

- I stayed at the Sundial from Aug 4 through Aug 8th. Our party consisted of myself, my best girlfriend (from elementary school!), her 12 yr old daughter, and my 9 year old son. We booked a 2 BR Island residence, and were upgraded upon check-in to a 2BR Coastal view condo. While the furniture in the condo wasn't how I would decorate (nothing in the living room really matched), it was fully functional and very clean. Our screened in balcony had a nice view of the gulf. Housekeeping personnel was friendly and did a great job cleaning each day. Our unit was equipped with a washer and dryer, dishwasher, and a fully stocked kitchen. Everything was in working order. I stayed at the Holiday Inn down the beach from the Sundial 3 years ago, and I liked my stay at the Sundial a lot more. The main pool area has music, activities, and plenty of chairs to relax in. We had lunch by the pool, and we all enjoyed our food. My son and my friend's daughter really enjoyed the touch tank in the Eco Center near the pool. My only issue here was that after 5PM, when the Eco Center closed, finding a pool towel was difficult, if not impossible. Every employee I came in contact with was friendly and outgoing. We enjoyed our stay immensely, and I've booked a trip to go back Labor day weekend! :-)
If you visit Sanibel, make sure you go to the Bailey Matthews Shell Museum on San-Cap Road. Watch the 2 movies that they offer, especially the newer one. You will be amazed at the sea life you will be able to find when you know what to look for. Make sure you go to the beach at low tide, and check out the tidal pools that form. We found starfish, hermit crabs, florida conch molusks, living sand dollar, baby ears, and a few other types of molusks. Without knowing what to look for, it's not likely you will be able to explore the sea life like we did!
We took a trip to Cayo Costa via Captiva Cruises leaving from a marina on Captiva Island. We found it worth the money we paid, the crew was friendly, the boat ride was nice, and the time spent on the beach there was very relaxing. We found lettered olive shells, sand dollars, cockle shells, sea urchin shells, among others.
This was definitely a great trip, and I am looking forward to returning next month! :-) « less

- hotel is very big and extensive and lies 50 m from the beach, fantastically. every morning we have enjoyed the sunset and of course we have collected erery morning shells - really!!!
the concierge - is mostly there -and always really friendly and cooperatively!
our room was equipped with fully functional kitchen, seats, great bedroom with safe and big balkony with direct sight to the sea. for safe we specially had to pay nothing - is included. bathroom had passable super shower- very nicely.
in the hotel we have never eaten, but have always gone about the island to find what is tasty.
We like to stay in this hotel!
shopping or bars and restaurants you cannot reach to is based - you should have a car. amy's cash you can have breakfast to recommend. jacaranda in the evening is noit sooo good! there is a so cold airconditioning that you can´t eat - even if you say this to the service - nothing happens.
« less
