- My husband and I stayed in a 1-BR suite for 4 nights in February 2010 and were extremely pleased and happy with our choice of Acqualina. We had never stayed in a high-rise style resort and were not fully sure what to expect, but Acqualina surprises and delights with their excellent customer service, beautiful rooms, and attention to detail. The ambiance is very international and cosmopolitan, from the multi-lingual staff to the guests who come from all over the world.
We were greeted at reception with complementary bellini cocktails and taken directly to our room on the 15th floor. (Being a Wednesday, the check-in process was very efficient and fast, but we did notice later that during peak hours on the weekend, the front desk area was much busier.) We were stunned upon seeing our room--the ocean views from the floor-to-ceiling windows were some of the best we have ever had and we instantly fell in love with the place!
I can only say good things about our room and we keep wishing we were still there! Gorgeous marble bathroom with separate jacuzzi tub, dual sinks and Etro bath products; incredibly comfortable bed and linens that made for very peaceful sleep; ample walk-in closet with safe; lovely living room; a small office with computer access; and an eat-in-kitchen complete with appliances. We did end up cooking a couple of breakfasts and lunches after discovering a Whole Foods about a 5-minute drive away. There is also a great gourmet shop called Epicure about a 15-minute walk up Collins Avenue. The only downside to mention regarding the kitchen is that it is not fully stocked with pots, pans, and tools. We did find a few basics in the cabinets and made due just fine, but it's worth mentioning in case someone wanted to do a lot of cooking.
The layout of the property is easy to navigate since it is fairly compact: there are 3 or 4 rooms/suites on each floor, facing either the beach or Collins Avenue. On the lobby level is Il Mulino restaurant, a bar/sushi restaurant area, the ESPA complex, and the Concierge desk. Every morning there is complementary coffee set up by the Concierge until 9 AM, which I made great use of.
Going out from the lobby you arrive to the three separate pool areas, and just beyond that is the Costa Grill restaurant, and then the beach. All guests are required to wear a bracelet when sitting out by the pools and beach. The family pool by far gets the most sun and was not very crowded until the weekend of our stay. The other two pools were always quiet and we used the nearby jacuzzis a few times. We spent most of our outdoor time on the beach which has comfortable lounge chairs and umbrellas. The stretch of beach is kept very clean and we couldn't get over how turquoise the water was for the Atlantic Ocean! The beach staff was very attentive and helpful and always went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. A nice surprise was the small morning and afternoon beach snack that the staff brought by each day. Among our favorites were the frozen lemonade, smoothies, and yogurt & granola.
We did not eat at the hotel restaurants since we ate our breakfasts in our suite and went to South Beach and Aventura for dinner. There are also a few restaurants on Collins just a short walk from the hotel.
We have stayed at a few other top-rated resorts and Acqualina holds its own for its gorgeous guest rooms, lovely stretch of pristine beach, and sophisticated, international vibe. As others have said, it is very expensive, but it's definitely worth it for a few days of R&R. We're hoping to go back at some point and will not think twice about staying at Acqualina again! « less

- Great rooms, great space, wonderful beach and service on the beach. Average food at the restaurants, but a small point. Few issues with housekeeping - we noticed broken glass on our carpet when we checked in, and it took them 2 days to vacuum it out, but in other ways housekeeping was on point and answered our requests promptly and eagerly!
We really loved the beach. Never sat at the pool, as it was overrun by tweens out of control (but we are not pool people so that was not an issue). They require you to wear bracelets to the beach which I thought was a bit tacky, but I just asked them to make it loose, took it off and affixed it to my beach bag.
We really liked Sunny Isles, as we did not want to be in the middle of South Beach, and liked the quietness.
Is it worth the price??? I thought it was on the expensive side, but for us, the rooms and especially the beach service were really important, so we would definitely stay again. In fact I have tried to make reservations twice again, but they were booked up, so we decided on another venue than Miami. (If anyone knows of another similar property please let me know!)
We went to a few restaurants, one memorable one was Tatiana! If you are looking for an interesting experience, I urge you to go - preferably with a group of people. If you like to dance, eat and drink, you will have a good time (it is really loud, so be prepared). « less

- We have stayed at the Acqualina before and loved it so decided to bring the whole family for the New Year. Whilst the hotel is still lovely there where quite a few issues during our stay. The staff are all without exception wonderful and really tried to do their best for us in sometimes difficult circumstances. The hotel was full but management seemed not to have allowed for extra staff etc for this very busy period. There were not enough beds, cushions, umbrellas etc for the beach. One morning we had to wait two and a half hours for towels on the beach and eventually had to go and get them from my room. There was a regular one and a half hour wait for food at lunchtime on the beach and forget even getting near the restaurant. The food on New Years Eve was incredibly expensive and very average. All of these are fairly minor but this is a very expensive five star hotel and should have done better. We will not be returning. « less

- Wow, I love this place. This is my second time here, first with my family and second for some solo time. I got in late Friday, and was upgraded to a beautiful one bedroom suite. It made my time here perfect. This place has it all. I spent a long weekend and enjoyed the Spa, Sushi and the adult Pool. The Service of the room was done with perfection. I never saw the cleaning people, but when I returned my room was spotless with a personal touch. Easy to travel here, minutes from the airport. I would love to have spin or barr classes offered on site. « less

- We stayed for 1 week at the beginning of November. I would put this hotel easily on a par with Four Seasons resorts. There were four of us in 3 rooms, one of which was a suite. The 'ordinary' rooms were huge with Bose Wave radios and iPod docking stations. You could dine 'a deux' in our shower it was so big or have a (real) jacuzzi bath if you preferred. The suite was enormous - huge kitchen with all mod cons, seperate dining area, lounge, study, bedroom and simply gigantic bathroom. Our only gripe with our 'ordinary' room was that the TV that disappeared into a cabinet at the end of the bed tended to have a mind of its own and would occasionally pop up, spin itself around then sink down again for no apparent reason! Yes, we could have called maintenance but we suspect it was probably us doing something wrong and it wasn't that intrusive!
It was still hot enough to sunbathe when we went and we took advantage of the Tranquility Pool (no kids allowed). This pool is super-heated - a bit like getting into a bath - but just right for sun-fried skin. The only problem with this pool is that the sun disappeared behind the building at about lunchtime so if you wanted to carry on sun worshipping, you needed to move to the main pool. If you opt for a cabana, at $75 a day, you get a bowl of fruit, an ice bucket with 4 bottles of Evian water, a TV and sun cream in various factors. Cabana or not you will be offered the various goodies throughout the day such as little tubs of granola with honey and yoghurt, iced margaritas, frozen fruit, etc.
The staff at breakfast were great and soon got used to us Brits and our way with English tea, bringing us jugs of cold milk and pots of hot water for our teabags. We only ate in the restaurant once, on our last night, and we were impressed with the quality versus the cost, which was very reasonable considering the Acqualina is one of the "World's Leading Small Hotels". (The building isn't small but only 97 rooms are given over to the hotel - the rest are private apartments).
We hadn't realised how far away we were from South Beach (a $30 approx. taxi ride each way), which might have influenced us a little to find a hotel closer. However, we didn't go to Miami to be right in the thick of it all the time so from that point of view, the Acqualina certainly can't be faulted.
Would we go again? Absolutely with no hesitation. « less
