- This was my second stay at this hotel....the first time I reserved a suite, this time we had a regular room on the concierge level. Both times I had an excellent stay. This hotel is located right down town close to the convention center, Ybor City, the port and other attractions. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms were quiet. If you like to run, there is a great path that goes along the Bay and a Starbucks across the street (very important if you're a junky like me). House keeping was GREAT. She left us personal messages and left the room looking great daily! We also utilize the spa on the last visit. The staff was very nice and the services were on par. I recommend this hotel to anyone on business in Tampa....but be warned there is no internet service in the rooms....WiFi in the lobby. « less

- After being happy with the downtown Tampa Embassy Suites I decided to fix what wasn't broken and upgrade to this full service hotel across the street. After one night: I received no housekeeping service; no wireless in the room; I attempted to get a Starbucks in the lobby at 12:30pm and as they were cleaning up they told me they were closed. I asked what their hours were: they replied 6am until 1:30pm. Go figure, I didn't feel like pointing out their problem with time. Sloppy service all around. « less

- We stayed 4 nights at this hotel and we chose it because it was close to the convention center and near the water. Check in was speedy and friendly. We got a room on the 15th floor but within an hour we learned (and could hear!) that there was a bachelor party going on, so we requested a change. We got upgraded to a water view with a balcony and let me tell you, it was worth the extra trouble to repack our stuff and relocate. The views were superb! (see my photos) We never watched TV because we were on that balcony every chance we got.
So here are the pros:
Great location. You can walk to the convention center and other attractions via the riverwalk.
Great views. It’s worth it to get a room with a water view and, if possible, a balcony.
Beautiful lobby. 25 foot palm trees in the lobby with lots of comfy seating with free wireless access (not in the room though).
Choice of 3 restaurants. We ate at the Champions sports bar which was in our price range and we also took a 10 minute stroll down the riverwalk to a plaza that had more restaurants, Greek, Spanish, and a
Bennigan’s was there too. The Tampa Bay Port Authority and the Aquarium are also located there. We saw the Carnival cruise ships come in and we thoroughly enjoyed watching that.
Guest laundry. 2 washers and 2 dryers on level 3 (same as pool and spa). They were free of charge. I used them twice so I could have clean clothes when I got home. Doing laundry among palm trees beats doing it at home.
Outdoor seating areas. There were lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the views of the channel.
Lots of elevators. 6 if I remember correctly. They handled the crowds well without breaking down.
The staff. Everyone we encountered had a smile and was very friendly and accomodating.
OK, so now for the cons.
The rooms are just ok. With a little tweaking, they could have been special. The mattresses. They were old mattresses with an old featherbed topper. Not too comfy. The duvet was white and clean but the decorative bed scarves were dingy and stained.
The bathroom. It appeared clean but we had some sticky soap rings on the corners of the tub left by previous shampoo bottles. The toiletries they provide are of the tiniest size and they’re not generous about replenishing them.
The windows absolutely need to be cleaned.
The coffee maker is the type that uses an individual filter for each cup. We thought it might be the pod style and brought extra pods with us, but nope, it’s the filter kind.
No free internet in the rooms. There is an extra charge.
The pool. (see pic) It looks small, but from our balcony above it looked bigger. It was pretty dirty the first day, but they cleaned it. The really gross part was the surrounding tile deck. It needs to be power washed really badly.
Parking fee. Valet parking for $20.00 per day. We decided to use the parking garage, which also happens to be where the valets run to pick up the guests cars. We would laugh because as we went to exit the hotel, the valets would all sort of walk toward the door looking at us. We thought of the seagulls from the movie Finding Nemo, “Mine! Mine!”
Overall, I would recommend this hotel over the Embassy which has a walkway to the convenion center. It is not covered, so no advantage there if it’s raining. The Embassy does not have balconies either. I’m glad we picked the Marriott. « less

- My wife and I stayed here for two nights pre-cruise. The location is good considering it's proximity to the cruise port and Channelside for restaurants. Our main issue was with the cleanliness of the room. It was obvious the sheets had not been changed from the prior occupant. We found stains, hair and unknown parts when we pulled back the sheet. Long story short, after 2 calls to the front desk they sent a bellman to chain our sheets. On another note, ask for a final bill at check out to make sure you are not stuck with extra charges. I did not but when I received one by I email I found that I had been charged $3.50 for a bottled water that I never opened. You can go ahead and keep that Marriott if you need the money that bad. It's no worth my time to get it back. « less
