- Treasure Bay Hotel and Marina was the third of the Gulf Blvd. "beach strip" properties I visited in 2010 (the other two were Grand Plaza on St. Pete Beach and Page Terrace on Treasure Island.)
While Treasure Bay was BY FAR the nicest of the three properties, it was also the least expensive. The only reason I can think of for this contradiction is that Treasure Bay is across the street from the beach while the other two properties are right on the beach. They get to charge a premium price for being "right on the beach."
Treasure Bay is also corporate owned, while Page Terrace was family owned and I'm not sure about Grand Plaza. Ownership may be a factor in pricing as some corporate headquarters might set rates based on some formula or may offer lower rates since they have more properties earning revenue, compared to family owned & occupied properties.
The "and marina" part of their name is behind the hotel, which is right on Boca Ciega Bay. There are some boat moorings and other bayfront properties in the area, and a boat rental place. Boca Ciega Bay separates Treasure Island from St. Petersburg. It's not much of a bay either, perhaps a mile wide at the most; whereas Tampa Bay (on the other side of St. Petersburg about eight miles away) is huge. Bridge spans across Tampa Bay are about three miles long while all the Boca Ciega bay bridges are short enough to be measured in feet.
Treasure Bay has a plush lobby area with the check in desk, the usual tourist brochures on a rack, an Internet terminal for guest use, a guest laundry room (although it only has two washers & two dryers, which is pretty typical for the Tampa Bay beach cities area) and leads to access to the first floor of rooms. There are three floors in total, laid out in long rectangles. One elevator serves all three floors, and one stairway.
The free WiFi works very well if you are on either end of the hotel, as the antennas are at each end of the room corridors. So if having reliable WiFi is important to you, request a room on the end. The ten or so rooms in the center of each floor have unreliable WiFi.
One of the nicest extra features Treasure Bay offers is the free coffee, muffins and pastries every morning on the second floor "lounge" which has a giant flat panel TV. You can relax and watch CNN or SpongeBob and enjoy a leisurely free breakfast. Most of the places that offer a free "continental breakfast" set it up in a way such as to indicate they don't want you hanging around. Treasure Bay invites you to hang around.
The rooms are very nice and fairly large. Although I always get a one king bed room, which leaves more empty space than the two queen bed rooms. Each room has a private balcony facing either Boca Ciega Bay or the Gulf of Mexico, a 42" flat panel TV, refrigerator, microwave, small kitchen area with a sink, work/dining table, two end tables with lamps, an upholstered chair, two clothes closets, and the usual bathroom set up which includes the popular "the arc" shower curtain rod.
The only two complaints I can offer about Treasure Bay, which are very minor, are 1. that the toilets cause some concern, and 2. there is almost nowhere to park a bicycle. I had to find a spot on a chain link fence behind the hotel to lock my bike, whereas Grand Plaza had an actual bike rack and Page Terrace at least had prior experience with cyclists and showed me a place where I could lock my bike. Treasure Bay just told me that I could lock it wherever I could find a place to do so, which was not easy.
The concern about the toilets is they have a very slow, weak flush and do not give me any confidence at all. While I had no problems with the toilet I did expect to have problems.
I spent two weeks at Treasure Bay and enjoyed it the most of the three beach properties I visited. Its location may not be excellent compared to all hotels in general, but it is excellent compared to other hotels on Treasure Island. You're right next to the 24 hour Waffle House and easy walking distance to McDonalds, Subway, Publix supermarket (a brand new one too), a very large coin laundry, barber shop, tourist shops, and other restaurants. There is also a traffic light right at the corner, which is rare for Treasure Island. Traffic lights are few and far between, making it dangerous to cross Gulf Blvd. « less

- Treasure bay hotel and marina was the perfect hotel for us. We searched and searched for the perfect hotel and Treasure bay offered everything we wanted at an affordable price. When we arrived the person who greeted us was very nice and let us check in a little early because it hadn't taken us as long to get there as we had planned. In fact, all of the hotel staff including the maids were very friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel and the area. Every time we had a question they were very polite and helpful.
We had a room overlooking the beach; it was very nice. Although either side (the marina or the beach) offered pretty views. No complaints about the room, it was clean and pretty much comfortable. The flat screen t.v, microwave, and mini fridge were great! The bed was good, the sheets were okay, and I found the pillows a little lumpy, but I slept just fine. The hotel was quiet and there were no major noises even though we were right next to the street. The maid service was good; just if you want your sheets changed you have to request it...no big deal. Overall, the room was just the right size; it did not feel cramped.
The free breakfast was fine for us. We were anxious to go to the beach so we would just grab a muffin and go. They offered granola bars, muffins, danishes, and coffee. My only (tiny) complaint would be the business center. Since it is only one computer, it usually was full, and by the time we got to it to print our boarding passes, the printer wasn't working right. But, no biggie it was up and running later that evening.
The hotel is right across the street from the beach and we found that the walk to the beach was easy and pleasant. Beautiful beach! John's pass was also a lot of fun, but was too long of a walk for us because it rained and was chilly for two of the days we stayed. So, we took the trolley. You can get a day pass for $4 and ride all day. They have 2 or 3 trolley stops within a couple minutes of the hotel. One was right outside the waffle house (which is beside the hotel), and that was the most convenient stop for us.
There is no on site restaurant at the hotel which was totally fine because there were lots of good choices no longer than a 10-15 minute walk away. We liked Sloppy Joes, Gigis (loved their italian food!), and a mcdonald's for a quick lunch.
Overall, we loved our trip and were so glad that we picked Treasure Bay hotel and Marina. It was affordable, clean, had a great staff, and we loved the location because it was close to everything we wanted to do. « less

- I stayed a week at Treasure Island Hotel and Marina and enjoyed my vacation immensly. The room was well decorated in earth (green) tones and cherry wood furniture. The little kitchen (small fridge, microwave oven, storage pantries and sink) was very practical. The staff were also friendly, professional, and courteous. I often felt like I had arrived home after a day at the beach (by the way it's across the street - public access) or shopping.
I would recommend asking for a room with a view of the marina. It's beautiful and quiet. No traffic or people sounds - only harping of birds and seagals. That's what I'M talking about!! I had thought about asking for a room with a beach view, but found that the hotels on the opposite side of the street were blocking the view. If you really want to view the beach, try the balcony located on the front of the building (2nd level) with tables and stools where you can sit and enjoy the sensational sunsets.
I had read reviews in which previous guests had complained that the sheets weren't made out of Eyptian cotton or that the breakfeast muffins had the audacity to be wrapped in plastic (complimentary, by the way). For those who need silk sheets and warmed muffins - this may not be the place for you . . . .
I got a great deal on a internet travel site - 7 nights for $680. That was money well spent. Wanted to stay longer, but reality was calling . . . I had to come back home to the brittle winters of the Mid-Atlantic region.
If I had to complain about one itsey, bitsey thang . . . The complimentary breakfast is served on the 2nd level (where my room was located), around 5 am my first morning, I was awakened by the smell of roasting coffee (burnt smell) that was suffocating. I got out of bed and opened the balcony door for fresh air, praying that a seagul wouldn't fly past the drapes. The following nights I placed towels under the door to prevent the smell from entering the room - it worked!
Still, highly recommended! « less

- We stayed at the Treasure Bay Hotel and Marina for 4 nights in mid-February. We got an excellent rate through their internet site and when we decided to stay an extra night, they continued to honor that rate. I can't say enough good things about this hotel, it has everything you need! The rooms are beautifully decorated, all have a wonderful, private little balcony. The beds were oh so comfortable, the bathroom was all we needed and more, great shower and bath, and we loved the Bath and Body Works soaps, shampoos, and lotions. The location can't be beat, right on Gulf Blvd, easy access to the beach (right across the street!) If you opt for a gulf-view room, you will get an immediate view of the pool/hot-tub area (both of which were wonderful), Gulf Blvd, and the beach - definitely a nice ocean view! If you opt for a bay-view room, you get a view of the peaceful, beautiful marina behind the hotel. We looked at nearly all of the hotels in the area and are so happy we chose this one, we really felt honored and taken care of throughout the trip. It is just muffins and cereal bars, coffee for breakfast, but that was plenty for us. We used the laundry facilities and the fitness room both and were very pleased. The only complaint we had, and we have to laugh at this a bit, is that there was clearly a very amorous couple in the room next to us one night and we could hear, well, pretty much everything they got up to for about two hours or so. At first we got a little annoyed, but then we laughed it off, hey they were on vacation too! So, just be aware, whether you are listening to the noise, or making the noise, that you CAN be easily heard by other rooms! « less

- From the moment I checked in until the time of check out the staff could not have been more helpful. My room was spacious and more importantly clean. The balcony overlooked the Bay. A small but heated pool,a jacuzzi and ample outdoor seating around the pool or on the upper terrace complete the picture. I didnt use they fitness room, but then I was on vacation! A great place at a great price. « less
