Overview
Location. The Rothschild-Pound House Inn and Village is located in the historic district of Columbus, Ga. The Columbus Riverwalk along the Chattahoochee River and the historic attractions of Heritage Park are three blocks from the property. Less than one-half mile from the inn, the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts offers Broadway musicals, plays and concerts. The historic Springer Opera House, the State Theatre of Georgia, is one-half mile away.
Features. This fully renovated Empire Victorian-style home was built in 1870. Each evening, wine and hors d’oeuvres are offered in one of the parlors. An honor bar is available in the formal dining room. Complimentary breakfasts are served in the accommodations or dining room. This property’s Southern charm is evident by its front porch swing. A screened back porch with rocking chairs overlooks the garden courtyard. Access to a nearby health club is complimentary.
Guestrooms. Suites in the main house and cottages at the Rothschild-Pound House Inn and Village offer private bathrooms with period or jetted tubs, showers, bathrobes and Gilchrist & Soames bath amenities. Five cottages, originally shotgun houses, face the main house. High ceilings, antique furnishings, fresh flowers, original artwork and hardwood floors are featured in all accommodations. Stocked mini fridges, microwave ovens and coffeemakers are provided in all units. Suites and cottages are equipped with digital cable television with movie channels and complimentary wireless Internet access. Cottages feature separate parlors, kitchens and wet bars. One cottage is divided into two suites. Wood-burning fireplaces and balconies, porches or patios with garden views are offered in select cottages and suites.
Expert Tip. A community effort saved this grand old home from demolition, and it was moved intact to the Columbus Historic District. Formerly the home of civic and industrial leaders, this gracious bed and breakfast was home to movie star Mel Gibson during the 2001 filming of When We Were Soldiers.
