Although the hotel was no frills, we were very happy with our stay. We aren't picky travellers and just use the room to sleep.
You can't beat the price and location of this hotel! « less

- I booked our first trip to Chicago (from Ottawa, ON) in July using points. Since we didn't have quite enough points to stay further up Michigan we had to settle for the Best Western. At the time of booking we didn't even know which side of the river was more preferable. I continued to read review posts about this hotel and was getting quite discouraged that maybe we had made a mistake. However, upon our very early arrival our room was not ready but we sacrificed a king bed for a queen bed and a view to be envied of the park. We thoroughly enjoyed being entertained by the street views every evening and how relaxing it was to view the lake every morning. Thanks Alex at the front desk (who we never saw again...maybe he went on vacation!)
As for other aspects of the hotel, it is very basic but very clean. We got Lavazza coffee, muffins and a yogourt parfait from the restaurant downstairs (Mei's Kitchen) on two days of our stay as the room provisions were not worth the effort to make. One night after 10 hours of touring and shopping all day, we had $3 beers at the downstairs restaurant before going our for dinner - great bargain for good beer (not swill water)! But we never ate a meal there. We could see part of the pool from our room but never had a chance to use it. As for the room itself, yes the pillow was lumpy as other reviewers wrote and the walls were thin but we compromised on price for location and found coping strategies. I must say we were pleasantly relieved with our accomodations. « less

- A group of us stayed at the Best Western Grant Park Hotel because of its proximity to a concert we were attending. The rooms were clean enough. The pool was disgusting. The worst part however, was the service. After the concert, we returned to our room at 1:30am. At 4:45 am the smoke detector battery was dying and the detector was chirping. We called the front desk and were notified that there was nothing she could do until someone else got there at 7am! We were also told to try and dismantle the smoke detector ourselves. Now, none of us had screwdrivers or anything with us, and isn't that a safety/fire hazard????? We had to listen to the loud chirping until 7am when the maintenance staff came up. We paid over $235 for a room we couldn't even sleep in! To make matters worse, we asked for a manager at check out (at 11am) and were told that no one would be in until 2pm! I called the corporate office and was told that they would have someone get back to me. 8 days later, no one has called me back. Corporate said all they could do is suggest to the hotel to contact me. Unacceptable! « less

- We chose this hotel because it was within our budget [$125 a night after tax]. It was our first time to Chicago. We stayed here 4 nights in a non-smoking double double room [no upgrade to a suite as one reviewer mentioned]. Next time, we will pay more for a better hotel. The overall experience was terrible to poor. We gave the hotel 2 stars only because of its location.
We checked in around 11am. We were told our room was not ready because the hotel was full. That was not a problem for us. What annoyed us was when my husband handed over his passport for identification, the receptionist took a look at his visa to the US. What was she looking for? We felt this was uncalled for since the visa contains a lot of personal information. When we came back at 3pm to ask for our room keys, the same receptionist looked at us and then whispered something to another receptionist. What was she whispering about?
The room is very basic. The bed is the biggest problem: the mattress is very lumpy and it does not provide support for your back. The pillow, as others have noted, is very thin. The wardrobe is without doors, the coffee maker is very old and the bathroom amenities are poor. The wall is paper thin. We could hear the conversation from the room next door and from the corridor.
Housekeeping was a real issue. The housekeepers never once managed to replace all the things we used the 4 nights we stayed there. There were always fewer shampoos, cups and towels than what we began with. The final day was the worst. None of the towels we used were replaced. The day we checked out, the housekeepers knocked on the door at 8am! She wanted to know if we had checked out! The housekeeper was so eager to clean the room on the day we checked out but not while we were staying there.
Next time we are in Chicago we'll stay in another hotel. This is one of the worst hotels we've stayed in. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. « less

- Chose this hotel primarily because of the deal we received. We were a little nervous after reading some of the not so good reviews but needed to stay on budget while vacationing in Chicago. Room was very clean, requested a non smoking 2 double bed room and received a mini suite with 2 double beds, pull out couch, microwave, & fridge at no extra cost! Beds were super comfy, couch was fine for a teen. Unlike some of the reviews I read, elevator wait time was minimal (and we were on the 9th floor), had clean washcloths and towels every day, fairly quiet after 10 pm or so (and our stay was Wed. thru Sat. nights). Walk to mag. mile was a little far so took a bus to Navy Pier, staff was very helpful getting us to the right bus stop and back. Never felt unsafe (as a mom with teen son and daughter). Would stay here again with no hesitation. Only negatives were room not quite ready at check in time (was ready by 3:20) and pillows definitely need an upgrade...very uncomfortable. Sure, decor is dated but that didn't affect sleeping! « less
