Overview
Location. The Candleberry Inn on Cape Cod is located in historic Brewster, Mass., less than one mile from the beaches. The Cape Cod Museum of National History, featuring exhibits, aquariums and three nature trails meandering through woodlands, salt marshes and shorelines, is two miles away. The inn is less than four miles from Nickerson State Park, which offers an eight-mile bike path connecting to the Cape Cod Rail Trail.
Features. This Georgian-style inn, built in 1790, is set on two acres of manicured lawns with flower and herb gardens. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served each morning in the dining room or the adjoining brick patio, with the signature dish of Crème Brule French Toast. A common area offers morning coffee and tea service, a guest refrigerator and access to the inn’s fountain, garden patio and grounds. Oriental rugs top wide pine floors. Hand-blown glass windows, wainscoting and fireplaces are featured throughout the inn. Prime bird-watching is available due to the inn’s holly and camellia bushes, which attract hummingbirds and orioles. Beach towels and chairs are provided. Pets are not allowed at this property.
Guestrooms. The Candleberry Inn on Cape Cod offers six guestrooms in the main house and two guestrooms in the carriage house. All units offer private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. Four of the rooms have working fireplaces. All units are equipped with cable television. Select rooms feature Oriental rugs and private entrances to the inn’s deck. Fresh flowers and chocolates are provided in all accommodations.
Expert Tip. The Candleberry Inn on Cape Cod once served as home to the 19th century author, Horatio Alger. The American author wrote "rags to riches" dime novels that were bestsellers in their own time, often rivaling those of Mark Twain in popularity.
