Overview
Built in 1895 as a railroad hotel, Thayer’s Historic Bed n’ Breakfast in Annandale, Minn., gives romantic couples and adventure seekers tastes of an Old West bed and breakfast, with friendly ghosts, psychic readings from the owner and murder-mystery dinner shows. The ghosts are those of founders Caroline and Gus Thayer, among others, who regularly leave pennies for guests. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Thayer’s is located one hour from Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Upon arriving at Victorian-style Thayer’s, guests will find greeters named Miss Sadie and Tennessee, the resident Maine Coon cats. The hotel offers carriage rides, jazz dinner shows, psychic retreats, ghost- hunting excursions and plenty of board games.
Even the 11 uncluttered Victorian guestrooms have names, such as the Renaissance Room; Weddings, Wishes & Dreams; Miss Sadie’s Garden; Romance in Savannah; Miss Lilly, Miss Amy and Miss Kitty. Each color-splashed guestroom features premium bedding, fireplaces and claw-footed soaking tubs. Telephones and televisions are located in the inn’s living room and parlor. All events are by special arrangement.
