Overview
Location. Just three blocks from the Lakewalk that runs along the shores of Lake Superior, the A. Charles Weiss Inn is a stately Victorian inn located in Duluth, Minnesota. Duluth shares a harbor with Superior, Wisconsin and together they make up one of the most important ports on the Great Lakes. A nice stroll from the inn and down the Lakewalk will take visitors to Canal Park, part of the revived Duluth waterfront. Jazz clubs, coffee shops, restaurants and a sculpture garden are located near the park. Spirit Mountain is just eleven miles from the inn in the Superior National Forest, offering skiing and snowboarding with views of the lake. The forest has around three million acres of fascinating northwestern landscape for exploration and recreation.
Hotel Features. Constructed in 1895, the historic inn was built for A. Charles Weiss, the editor and publisher of the city’s first successful newspaper. The exterior is fronted by a veranda and flanked by beautiful shrubbery and perennials. The parlor features a marble fireplace and exquisite oak throughout. The classic library is dressed in cherry wood and boasts a tiled fireplace. A complimentary breakfast is served each morning.
Guestrooms. Each of the guestrooms features unique décor and amenities, but all have private baths. Deluxe rooms have fireplaces and the premium room has a fireplace and a double jetted tub.
Expert Tip. Less than two miles from the inn, on a wooded lot, lies the Glensheen Estate. Built in the early 1900s to resemble a 17th century country estate, the home still retains much of the original owners’ furnishings and art.
