Location. The Port Inn in Portsmouth, N.H., offers a picturesque setting within two miles of downtown Portsmouth and five miles from the beach. Expert Tip. A little known fact about the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is that it hosted the 1905 Treaty of Portsmouth, ending the Russo-Japanese War. President Theodore Roosevelt, who worked to facilitate the treaty, was awarded the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. In the summer 2005, a series of events were held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the treaty signing.
