- I was in Santa Fe on business for three days and had reservations at this hotel for three nights. I arrived after midnight without having dinner only to learn the hotel only had vending machines and no room service. The on-site manager was less than helpful about where to find food after midnight and then high-lighted a route to the Atomic Grill which sent me the wrong way down three one-way streets. After settling for McDonald's I returned to check into my room billed as a one-bedroom suite. What a dump. The front room had a couch with cigarette burns that let out a whoosh of dust when I sat down. There was no working desk, only a telephone stand which measured 18" by 2'. The room had coffee service with a small pot and one pouch of coffee. No clear idea of whether or not the room had internet as everything in the room was dark due to the 40W and 60W bulbs in each ceiling fixture. The fireplace cannnot be lit by anyone other than the staff so it was not really operational. The bedroom was worse. The carpet on the floor was lumpy like the pad had been moved around. The outlines of springs were visible underneath the bedsheets of the lumpy bed. The furnishings were dark and heavy, sort of like they were purchased at a garage sale and been left out in the sun too long. And the room smelled musty/damp/mildewy. And the bedroom window faced an alley with a dumpster below my window which was overdue for pick-up as the heat was causing the odor to rise up to the room. The bathroom was outfitted with fixtures from the 50s', a shallow tub and cracked tiling. The towels were stiff and starchy and smelled like they had been scorched rather than dried. The A/C was one ceiling fan which turned off and on at random and needed oiling or to be re-set. Very noisy. Self-parking was $14 per night and the garage only had one available space, but at least the underground parking structure appeared new as there was still work materials and construction stuff laying around next to the parking spaces. This is an incredibly over-priced venue taking advantage of its location near the Old Sqaure. I would have rather slept in my car. Plus, if you have a room on an upper story there is no elevator, just an endless walk up two sets of stairs with your luggage. Overall, you should not fall for the photos in the ad or the fact this hotel has been resting on its Heritage Hotels' reputation which must have been earned before any of us were born. A huge let-down and disappointment all around and would compare unfavorably to any other low-end accomodations including Super 8 or Motel 6. Plus, when we later complained about the above, the hotel management said they needed the complaints in writing. Hope this review will meet their needs. « less

- Stayed her for a week to attend a professional conference and do some sightseeing. The location was wonderful, was within walking distance to the Plaza which was less than a block away, a variety of shopping, Canyon Road art galleries, restaurants, etc. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely, had a nice sitting area, and the bed was quite comfortable. We liked the option to sit out on the porch or in the courtyard to wind down after a busy day. We definitely plan to return here in the future. « less

- On a recent trip to Santa Fe to attend the International Folk Art Festival, a friend and I booked a room at The Hotel Plaza Real on Expedia. We confirmed ahead of time with Expedia that the room would have 2 separate double beds. Upon arriving, there was no such room available. Rachel at the front desk totally understood how neither of we two 50 somethings wanted to sleep on a sofa-sleeper and made arrangements for us to have a wonderful suite, no extra cost. All through our four days at the hotel, the people were friendly, place was clean and very welcoming. It is so close to the plaza and directly across the street from the Palace of Governors. Quiet evenings, safe neighborhood, just a perfect location. « less

- Hotel Plaza Real is a great smaller property one-block off of the Historic Plaza in Santa Fe. Older, but clean, with a friendly center courtyard, you will not need to use your car to visit all the major attractions in Central Santa Fe. Understanding that personalized service can be a competitive differentiator, the hotel staff anticipated every need including offering to check airline information and to print e-tickets. The hotel does not have a business center (even on a leisure trip, internet access would be a nice offering), but the front desk will assist you should you need anything. Although no full-service restaurant on site, you are next door to the excellent Anasazi Restaurant and many other local options within a few steps. If you bring heavy luggage, you may want to opt for ground floor as most of the second and third story suites with awesome balconies require climbing narrow stairs. Front porch with a Happy Hour lounge makes a great people-watching spot in the City Different. « less

- We wanted a hotel in downtown Santa Fe and this hotel was a perfect fit for our needs. Great location right in the center of downtown and within walking distance to all area sites, restaurants and shopping. While the hotel itself is older, we found it to be clean, well maintained and quite charming. The staff was excellent, from the front desk at checkin to the other staff that always had a smile. « less
