The English Garden B&B

Location. The English Garden B&B is located in the heart of the Historic Stockade District of Schenectady, N.Y., five blocks from Union College. Biking is available along the Mohawk Towpath, along the Mohawk River just two blocks away. The city of Saratoga Springs, with its famous horseracing track and a multitude of museums and other attractions, is a 30-mile drive. The state capital, Albany, is 20 miles away.
Hotel Features. Built by wealthy fur traders as a Federal-style home in 1775, this bed and breakfast was revamped with Victorian architectural features in the 19th century. It has been said that George Washington was among those who stayed here in the early days. The 5,000-square-foot home is decorated with antiques, and features a ballroom and a tea room with original wood beams and plank flooring from 1775. Business services, including a fax machine and wireless Internet access are available. A complimentary full breakfast consisting of quiche, frittata, French toast, homemade breakfast breads, yogurt and seasonal fruit is served each morning.

Guestrooms. The guestrooms at The English Garden B&B have private or shared bathrooms. Suites, which can accommodate an extra single bed to accommodate additional guests, are available. Other amenities available in the rooms include wireless Internet access and cable television.

Expert Tip. Guests arriving by train will find this bed and breakfast extremely convenient, as the train station to New York City, Vermont and Canada is only one block away. Pickup at the train station is available.
