Location. The First Flight Retreat is located in Kill Devil Hills, N.C., overlooking a beach on the Outer Banks. The Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk is one mile away. Located in Nags Head four miles from the property, Jockey's Ridge State Park is home to the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States. The Roanoke Island Festival Park and North Carolina Aquarium at Roanoke Island are eight miles away.

Expert Tip. The town of Kill Devil Hills is famous for the dune where the Wright Brothers achieved the first airplane flight in 1903. The Wright Brothers National Memorial, located one mile away, features a 60-foot pylon atop the hill where Wilbur and Orville Wright conducted their glider experiments. Full-scale reproductions of the 1902 glider and 1903 flying machine, an engine block from the original 1903 flyer, and a reproduction of the Wright brothers' first wind tunnel are on display in the Visitor Center.
