Location. The Marshall Slocum House is located one-half mile from the Historic Hill District in Newport, R.I. The Historic Hill District is home to the "cottages" summer mansions, constructed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Thames Street, one-half mile away, offers dozens of galleries, restaurants and entertainment venues.
Features. This 1855 Victorian bed and breakfast features a large back deck overlooking manicured gardens. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served daily, featuring a selection of cereals, yogurt, fruit and specialties, including Crab Benedict and chocolate pancakes. Lobster dinners are served weekly on the property’s back deck for a fee. Fax and photocopy services, a computer station and complimentary wireless Internet access are available. Other amenities include a CD stereo, DVD player, video library and board games. Laundry facilities are provided. Pets are not allowed.

Guestrooms. Guestrooms offer private bathrooms with Crown Imperial bath linens, terry-cloth bathrobes and Greenwich Bay toiletries. Beds feature down comforters. The Captain’s Quarters guestroom boasts period antiques, a four-poster canopy bed and a marble-tiled bathroom with a jetted tub. The Brass Room features a Victorian-style brass bed and antique pine furnishings. The Bostonian offers a claw-foot tub overlooking the backyard. The Postcard Room is decorated with classic period antiques, and overlooks the treetops on the third floor. The Rose Room features an oversized skylight and a gas fireplace.

Expert Tip. The Newport Cliff Walk, which can be accessed on Memorial Boulevard less than one mile from the property, is a three-and-one-mile mile walk along the cliffs overlooking Newport. The walk offers views of the Easton Bay and Rhode Island Sound, complemented by the historical Newport mansions located above.
