- I would NEVER stay at this hotel again even if I am in desparate need. I would rather sleep in my car. The issues below are probably the reason why you have to pay the first night deposit up front and pay for the rest of your stay when you check in. Thank God, we were only staying for two nights. Ugggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh.
When we first checked in, you can tell that the condo room was never cleaned. There were empty cereal boxes left in the kitchen, the toilets were never cleaned (one had urine on the seat). I am glad that I had my lysol spray and wipes.
The beds are so stiff that you feel like you are sleeping on the floor and the pillows were so thin. Be aware that some of the rooms are privately owned, which we did not know. If something happens and management can't get in touch with the owners, you are SCREWED!!!!!
On the first night of our stay, an alarm started going off at 5:50AM in the morning and we called downstairs to the front desk. The owners would not compensate me with not even10%, telling me that it was an act of God; it was something that they could not control and got to it as fast as they could. Can you imagine if there was a fire and you needed compensation for your belongings? I imagine they will try to give you the same answer.
BTW, I stayed at the Atlantica Resort at 1700 North Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach and was told this was the nicest and newest of the 4 buildings. I cannot even imagine what the other 3 buildings/rooms look like. Also there was not a parking lot for the hotel, you had to find your own parking in the street.

This guest was upset about a fire alarm in the next unit that would not turn off and the off-site rental company would not come out and reset the alarm. A hotel fire 4 blocks away was creating a smoke cloud due to high humidity that was lingering in the air. The smoke stayed low to the ground for blocks causing smoke alarms to go off constantly all night, All we could do was call the off-site company which would not respond due to the late hour. We offered to move the disturbed guest to another unit.

- We went down to this resort with a group of 15 families to play in the Ripken baseball tournament. All the kids and adults had a great time. Everyone was very pleased with the rooms, ammenties and the friendly staff. The location was second to none, both close to the Ripken fields and food, mini golf, and so on. We stayed through the July 4th weekend and watched the fireworks for hours while sitting on the beach. Best time I had in a long time. We all stayed in the Atlantica larger building with the lazy river. Noticed the building next to it was closed, but it was well kept. Great location, great staff couldn't ask for more. Highly recommend for families or weekend getaways. Plan on returing again in 2010. « less

- Myself and three friends take an annual "girls beach trip" each year and always look forward to it. While planning our trip for this year I remembered how horrible our trip in 2007 was and wanted to make a review for The Poindexter because I saw during my search that this place is still open! Just to let you know that I used to always book through Expedia up until this trip because I felt deceived when booking this hotel. There are three buildings at this Atlantica Resorts hotel called the Poindexter. We were placed in the building on the far right of the check in building. When we checked in it was pleasant enough the lobby looked acceptable and we were given our key, pointed to our building and told where to find a luggage cart. First of all, after loading the luggage full and rolling it to the entry way our our building we discovered that you had to go up a half flight of stairs to get to the elevator...but there were several male staff members (all foreign and non English speaking) that carted our luggage up to the elevator for us. We were immediately alarmed at the stench from inside the elevator and braced ourselves for what we thought might be a bad experience. After taking the walk to our oceanfront room down a long dimly lite halfway that was stained and smelled horrible we reach our room to find that you had to use hip action on the door to get it open otherwise it seemed jammed. After walking in the room I didn't think it could get any worse...it was so terrible that I literally cried. The room was only halfway carpeted around the bed areas, the cabinet doors in the kitchen area wouldn't close all the way and looked like they were coming off the hindges, there was still the feel of sand in the carpet (which after calling maid service they did vaccuum and apologize) the balcony had exposed pipes that seemed to carry water up to the above floors because you could hear the water running through them on occassions...the room smelled of mildrew on top of being completely outdated and run down. The mattresses were hard as rocks and the furniture was worn and beaten up from excessive ware. For the money that we paid I wasn't expecting an exquisit hotel room but we paid enough to have a clean somewhat updated room like was shown in the pictures of the hotels website and also on Expedias. It was nothing like what we expected. I immediately went to the front desk and was told that the building we were staying in had not yet been updated since the take over from Atlantica but the other two buildings of the hotel had been. I asked to move and was told we would have to pay an additional $107 a night for the "upgraded" room! Of course this was unacceptable because I didn't seem how $107 total a night for any of the rooms seemed appropriate so we decided to have the room cleaned and we would tough it out...after all we were there for the beach not the room. It only got worse...we were harrassed and cat called at by the hotel maintenance and cleaning male staff while walking to the beach from our room...complaining did no good as it continued every day we were there. The first night we were awaken when a friend was screaming from the bathroom because a cockroach the size of a small mouse was crawling around in the tub! When we called housekeeping to come have it removed we were told it wasn't a cockroach but a Palmetto Bug and that you can't keep them from coming inside when you are on the beach. I have gone to the beach every year my whole life and never had the experience of bugs like that in a hotel room...which by the way a Palmetto Bug is a cockroach...one in the same. At least the staff was kind enough to remove it...however we were graced with their presences every day that we were there and began killing them with hair spray. The hotel pools were dirty and seemed to be rarely cleaned...they smelled somewhat sour or something unpleasant and were HOT all the time! I know Myrtle Beach in late August is very hot but if the water in pools is changed regularly it will keep them from getting hot...this was not the case for this hotel. Whatever you do...DO NOT STAY here. This place is a nightmare and should be condemmed it was so awful! « less

- We liked the hotel .We stayed 2 different weekends right in a row. When we left the 2nd weekend,5 days later. We checked our bank account and found out the hotel charged us 75.00 dollars. So I called and they told me we took stuff from there room.Fist of all the never called to discuss this with us and 2nd we didnt take nothing from them.We are a loving baptist church family and would never do this.I would not recomend this place to no one.Now we will have checks bounce on us,cause they didnt even call us to talk to us about this.We will never stay there again. Now I have to fight to get the money back.Im disabled and very sickly. « less
