- We were reluctant and worried about our trip to stay at Hotel Blue after reading reviews, goes to prove that when you have a bad thing to say you hear it 10x over a good one. So I felt the need to post that its well worth the money, presentable, clean. Pool is awesome with lounge chairs that sit in water and the swim up bar is great also! « less

- LAST STRAW ~~~ ROACHES CRAWLING ACROSS THE FLOOR !!!
I took my diabled sister and her Grandaughter to the beach for what I hoped would be a delightful few days for them ...
I actually had to pay an extra fee to get a room on a lower floor ... the hotel room was beyond terrible ... the sink faucet would literally lift right up off the sink surface ... the light above the sink was broken and looked as though it might fall at any time ... only light in the privy room was a heat lamp in the ceiling ... the light above the kitchen sink had no bulb and I doubt that it would have worked anyway ... the curtains were broken and hanging by a thread ... tv remote worked only if you pointed it at the floor ... it didn't help that the hotel next door had outdoor music blasting to the point that you could not enjoy sitting on the balcony. DEFINITELY ... NEVER AGAIN !!! « less

- Plus"es" - Great layout of room, Great shower pressure, Great pool for adults since you can float up to the bar that is located in the pool, and hotel is in a great location in Myrtle Beach.
Minus "es" (and this is a biggie for me). Terribly uncomfortable bed. The bed was hard as a brick and thank God there was a Murphy bed that we were able to pull out because I wouldn't have been able to sleep in the three days we were there. The room was much older than I expected for what we paid per night. This is an older hotel that has been supposedly renovated, but with the number of holes (patched, of course) in our room, as well as filthy carpet, I don't think whoever renovated these rooms did a very good job.
Was my vacation ruined by Hotel Blue? No. But I wouldn't stay here again for the money they charge compared to other hotels in the area. We tried to stay at Captain's Quarters which is the sister hotel to Hotel Blue. CQ is a much nicer place but reservations weren't available there for me. Next time, I will plan better, pay earlier, and stay at CQ. « less

- We booked two rooms in mid-July. One for me and my 10 year old son, and another for my parents and sister. We arrived at the hotel around 2:00 and easily checked in. Surprisingly our room was ready, which was a plus. Check-in paperwork took about 10 minutes.
We stayed in the newly remodeled ocean front efficiency rooms. They were simple, but tastefully done. I particularly appreciated the tiled floors. Carpet holds dirt, mold and mildew and we didn't have any of that. The kitchen had very limited dishes, but was clean and had granite counter tops. My father cooked daily and didn't seem to have a problem with the kitchen. The hallways, however, were very run down- worn carpet and walls, etc. Not a big deal to me as long as my room was fine.
My son and I stayed on the second floor, which I didn't particularly like because our window and balcony were right in front of the pool. It wasn't possible to leave the blinds open and get any privacy. That's my fault for not requesting a room on a higher level. Request a room higher than the third floor if you stay. My parents did stay on a higher level floor and their view was great. The only problem with their room location was that it was right across from some sort of maintenance/storage room, and apparently the hotel staff sometimes stored garbage there and it stunk.
My daily housekeeping was great. The room was always very clean with swept and mopped floors. There were always plenty of towels. My parents' housekeeping wasn't as good. My mother complained several times that the housekeeper didn't sweep the floors and didn't empty the trash.
The hotel provides easy access to the beach. Simply walk through the pool area and you are there. The swim-up bar was very nice, and the bartenders were great. The pool was nice, but overly crowded with rowdy kids, so it was difficult for adults to enjoy. My son, of course, loved this, though. During our stay there was also a daily kids program that had activities all day long. My son enjoyed things like beach football, baseball, soccer, pool games, scavenger hunts, etc. The lazy river is quite small, but my son enjoyed it anyway. It was mostly just kids in there. There is one large hot tub in the front pool area. It was nice. There is another smaller hot tub undercover back behind the lazy river. This one seemed to always be occupied by kids. Again, my son loved this.
The hotel also has a small cafe area that served reasonably priced food. Nothing high-end but certainly acceptable for lunch at the beach. They served things like quesadillas, hamburgers, salads, etc.
The location is very good, just two blocks from Family Kingdom and close to the downtown MB area with all the shops, restaurants, bars, etc. It is also relatively close to Broadway at the Beach.
If you are planning on staying at this hotel, I suggest you book one of the oceanfront efficiencies. Reading other reviews on here, it sounds as if the other rooms are horrible. Also, their entry doors are in the garage which is weird and probably also noisy. Speaking of the garage... It is very tight and crammed. We were always able to find a spot on our floor (which made getting to our room very easy), but we were jammed in to the little spot. Luckily I have a small car. I wouldn't want to navigate it with a van or SUV.
While reading this review, please keep in mind that I am a relatively low maintenance traveler. I travel frequently for business and pleasure, but don't spend a lot of time in my room. I pretty much only require a good location and a clean place to sleep and shower. When traveling with my son I also require activities/hotel environment that will keep him entertained and happy. This hotel suited all of those needs. « less
