- This was my first trip to Texas, let alone Austin. I had no idea where to stay or what might be good for the money. I was pleasantly surprised at this hotels location. It was so convenient for all my business appointments. The hospitality could not be more exceptional. Rooms were nice and clean. Only downside was the musty smell when you first walked in, but I got used to it. Overall, I give this hotel 4 out of 5 stars in my book « less

- Booked this hotel for $85.00 a night from Hotels.com. I stayed 3 nights at the Wyndham Hotel/Woodward Hotel in early August 2010 for a business conference. Arrived at 7:00 PM on a Monday night after having been at airports all day, so my colleagues and I were weary travelers. So, the hotel bar looked very enticing. We were greeted by a warm and welcoming staff. Scenic lobby with modern amenities. We got checked in right away. However, upon entering my room on the 2nd floor, I noticed a toilet overflowing with water all over floor, I went back down to alert the front desk of the issue and one of my colleagues is also there complaining of a bad odor in his room.
The staff was gracious and helpful and gave us new rooms on the 3rd floor. My colleague's new room had less of a smell, but I can see what other reviews are talking about. and what my colleague was talking about. The 4 rooms I was in during the 3 day stay, each room had a musty type of odor. I didn't mind it so much, but my colleagues were not to happy about it.
Overall, I had a good experience at the hotel. Nice breakfast (with a Starbucks), good food, good hotel bar, friendly, courteous staff who were helpful with local restaurants and directions. Average exercise room. Free Wi-Fi. Great location. Directly off I-35 and close to heart of downtown Austin. The shuttle took us to AUS airport right on time on Friday morning.
This hotel could use some room upgrades though. The musty smell inside of the rooms is something that needs to be addressed and the floors absolutely need a shampoo or gutted. I wore my shower shoes when I walked around in my room and so did my colleagues. My first night the bottoms of my white socks were dark brown. Some TV's need an upgrade. I think I had a 25" inch Magnavox from 1995. Two of my colleagues had nicer, newer TV's, but I don't watch much TV anyway as I do a lot of conference calls from the laptop and I didn't spend much time in the room except to sleep. Comftorable beds which was nice.
One last tid-bit, which took me a while to figure out, is this is a "green" hotel. Austin is a "green" city. I don't care much for, but hey, is what it is. You have to insert your room key into the wall next to the thermostat for you to be able to adjust the temperature. After being out in the 105 degree Austin heat, all I wanted to do was come into a cool room, and I was just surprised at how complicated it seemed at first to adjust the AC down. It was probably close to 80 degrees when we walked in the rooms. The temps did cool down quickly, but that was just mildly annoying. In all my business travels, I've never had to insert my hotel key card to adjust the thermostat.
I would probably stay here again, but management needs to honestly do something about the moldy room smells, which I strongly believe is coming from the floors which need shampooing or to be re-carpeted.
ALSO - Look out for dogs. We were surprised to see a couple dogs walking around the lobby. My colleague is allergic to animal dander, so they put him on the top floor. 1st floor is where the animals stay.
