I have stayed at the following places in Williamsburg: Patriots' Place, Powhatan Plantation, Greensprings Plantation, and several area hotels. Overall, I find that Kingsgate is the best place when traveling with children.

While my husband and I love Colonial Williamsburg, which is only a short drive away from Kingsgate, the grandkids (boys 9, 10) and nieces (girls 6, 9) remember the arcade the most and want to go back to enjoy the pool and miniature golf. There is a $5.00 per day per unit activity fee that pays for itself within the first 30 minutes of the vacation.

There are also several family friendly places to visit nearby. After reading another review on Trip Advisor, we went to Waller Mill Park (http://www.williamsburgva.gov/Index.aspx?page=477). A great place for kids to burn off any left over energy! It was free to get into the park and they rented kayaks for $5.00 an hour or pedal boats for $8.00 an hour. There were also playgrounds, picnic areas and lots of trails. There was even a dog park! Kingsgate doesn't take pets, but we found an excellent kennel facility nearby and would daily pick up our dog for walks around Williamsburg or one of the many parks they have in the area.

Kingsgate is right around the corner from a K-mart and a Dairy Queen - another kid preferred spot. There is also a very good, reasonably priced Chinese restaurant in the same shopping center called Peking Restaurant. One of the boys is a "selective"eater, but there was enough pizza and other little boy favorites to fill up on. The all you can eat dinner buffet for adults was $10.99, less for kids, but I don't remember what it cost or what ages were considered for child's pricing. The Cracker Barrel is also within a mile, a great place for breakfast with children.

We were there in November, so it was a little too cool for the outdoor pool, but they enjoyed the indoor pool. There is also a weight room that I used, it had adequate equipment and nobody else was in there with me anytime that I was there. The rooms are clean and the two bedroom has a pull-out couch so you can easily sleep six in comfort. The kitchen was equipped for cooking and had all of the necessary appliances and utensils. I'm not sure when the restaurant on site is open - It was not open most times we were there.

If I were not traveling with kids, I might select a quieter location with nicer facilities, but you can't beat this place if you are planning a vacation with children! « less
