Overview
Location. Overlooking Lake Whatcom in Sedro-Woolley, Wash., South Bay B&B at Lake Whatcom offers secluded accommodations 15 miles north of Bellingham, Wash. Trails through the property's five acres and beyond lead to a cedar grove, down to the creek or to one of the beaches. Lake Whatcom is approximately 12 miles long, and offers swimming, sailing, kayaking, water-skiing and a variety of fish, including bass and trout. Golf courses, river rafting, fly fishing, the Mount Baker Ski Area, whale watching, museums and art galleries are within 25 miles of the property.
Features. Once a residence on the grounds of the local fish hatchery, this Craftsman-style bungalow was moved to its current location. Now a classic lakeside retreat, the home features large windows, natural wood trim, and views of the lake, forest and mountains. Complimentary breakfasts are served in the conservatory-sunroom, which also offers a fireplace and overstuffed furniture. The signature dish is Phil's Phritata, an egg, sausage and cheddar cheese dish with a spicy flair served with mango peach salsa. Photocopy and fax services, complimentary wireless Internet access and a computer station are available. The living room offers a bay window seat, sofas, loveseats and a fireplace. A wraparound porch and patios invite guests to relax on wicker furniture and enjoy the view or to nap in a hammock.

Expert Tip. The Hertz Trail in North Lake Whatcom Park follows the old Blue Canyon mine railroad grade along the shores of Lake Whatcom. This beautiful trail, nestled between Stewart Mountain and Lake Whatcom, offers scenic tranquil spots along the shoreline for approximately three miles one way. The trailhead begins at the end of North Shore Drive. From Bellingham, located 15 miles from the property, follow North Shore Drive east to where the road ends.
