U.S. Navy Veteran Gets a Warm Welcome with a Smart Home

For most of us, a smart home offers convenience and peace of mind. But for those living with disabilities, smart home technology can help make home a significantly more accessible and welcoming place.

One of our authorized dealers, Hawkeye Communications, recently installed Honeywell Home by Resideo security products in a smart home built for Taylor Morris, a U.S. Navy veteran injured in combat.

Morris, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, lost his limbs when he stepped on a bomb in Afghanistan in 2012. He and his high-school sweetheart, Danielle, who he married in 2015, moved into their new home earlier this year.

The home was built as a fully-enabled smart home to ensure that Morris has maximum independence. As part of the home-building project, Hawkeye installed a Honeywell VISTA-128 alarm panel with 5800 series wireless motion, glass break and door sensors. They also used Tuxedo Touch WiFi keypads and our Total Connect software and app to provide alerts and other remote control features.

"Resideo's Honeywell Home products have the functionality and reliability that we want to bring to all our customers, but particularly to Taylor, who has given so much," said Todd Sergeant, Senior Project Manager, Hawkeye Communications.

In addition to smart security, the home offers smart lighting, window shades and other features that will help the couple be safe and comfortable at home.

Hawkeye will be recognized by Resideo at the 2018 CONNECT Conference with a Community Service Award for their contributions to this project.

The Gary Sinese Foundation, established by the actor, took the lead in covering the costs of building the new home and brought together the many non-profits and companies that supported this effort.
