Smart thermostats and zoned heating
As energy prices remain a key concern for homeowners, we’re beginning to see different approaches towards heating their home.
A recent consumer survey conducted by Resideo found that 74%* of those questioned are worried about the cost and energy consumption.
But rather than simply turning the thermostat down, many homeowners may prefer to opt for a smarter approach to their heating system.
The research reveals that 43% of respondents plan to heat only the rooms they actively use, instead of warming the entire house. This growing preference for targeted heating solutions presents a valuable opportunity for HVAC installers to support customers with smarter, more efficient heating solutions.
Just as importantly, nearly half of homeowners (48%) rely on professional installers for advice on what heating products to purchase and install. This positions installers at the heart of the decision-making process - able to add real value by demonstrating how connected heating controls can help to reduce energy use without compromising comfort.
Smart Solutions for Individual Room Heating
Demand for flexibility has encouraged interest in zoned heating solutions, such as Honeywell Home evohome®.
Designed to deliver room-by-room comfort, evohome® allows homeowners to control up to twelve individual temperature zones throughout the home, using smart thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs).
Instead of heating the whole house during mornings and evenings, evohome® lets occupants heat only the spaces they are using. This makes it particularly well-suited to flexible working patterns, busy family homes, and anyone looking to better manage energy bills.
With built-in Wi-Fi, evohome® can be controlled via a central controller, smartphone or tablet app, or through compatible smart home voice assistants. Beyond scheduling and zoning, the heating control system communicates directly with the heat source, adjusting output in real time to deliver precise temperatures while optimising overall efficiency.
Smart Thermostats for Simpler Control
For homeowners who are not ready for zoned heating but still want improved efficiency, smart thermostats such as the Honeywell Home T6R offer an effective alternative.
The T6R can be controlled remotely using the Resideo app, allowing users to turn heating on or off whenever needed to reduce unnecessary energy consumption. It is compatible with a wide range of heating systems, including gas boilers, combi-boilers, and heat pumps.
Using location-based geofencing, the T6R can automatically adjust heating based on smartphone location - ensuring the home is warm when occupied and not wasting energy when empty.
For those who prefer manual control, the thermostat also offers programmable scheduling with up to six time periods per day.
As homes increasingly adopt smart and voice-controlled devices, connected heating controls like the T6R integrate seamlessly with popular smart home platforms, helping homeowners stay comfortable while keeping energy use firmly under control.
