Students boost skills through Resideo academy

There is nothing like having hands-on experience of a product in the training room before you install it in a customer’s home. Darren Cooke, EMEA Training & Enablement Leader from Resideo looks at how our latest college partnership is helping equip students with industry knowledge using its products ahead of them stepping out into the industry.

As part of our ongoing commitment to invest in future talent entering our industry, we’re delighted to announce we’ve partnered with SMB College Group delivering a series of Resideo Academy training courses.

The collaboration is the start of an ongoing partnership with the SMB College Group’s Stephenson Campus, located in Coalville, Leicestershire, to support with training the next generation of heating and plumbing installers on the latest products and advancements in the industry.

As part of the partnership, our team of expert trainers will be using a sponsored Resideo Academy classroom at the Stephenson Campus to support SMB College Group students gain new skills. To further support the learning and give first-hand experience, we have also donated a range of products, including smart controls, thermostats, timers, valves, CO detectors and TRV's which will be installed as part of the college's development of a new workshop area. This will help students develop their skills using a mix of legacy and latest products across several heating systems.

We’ve already hosted the first training session, which looked at S and Y plans, and have received some great feedback from the students who attended. This exciting new partnership will ensure the next generation of heating and plumbing installers are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to enjoy a successful career in the industry and play a key role in the future of the sector.

Section Manager, Mark Bradbury at the Stephenson Campus commented; “Arming our students with the information and experience they need to take the heating industry forward is at the heart of everything we do. So, creating partnerships that further support and guide them, is a massive priority for us.”

“Our partnership with Resideo will give all our students the opportunity to work with a leading manufacturer, helping to familiarise themselves with products before they start installing them. It is also a great opportunity to get the latest information and keep up to date with what is changing in the industry in terms of legislation, product advances and best practice advice.”

Speaking about the recent training course, one of the students who participated said: “Attending the course through the Resideo Academy has given me first-hand experience from both the college and manufacturer viewpoint. I now feel even more confident when it comes to wiring up the S and Y plans.”

“I found the training informative and it really helped me understand the process of wiring a system.”
