Resideo and Mission 500 Help Puerto Rican Families Rebuild in Wake of Hurricane Maria

At Resideo, we’re focused on helping homeowners conserve and protect their biggest investment: their home. Beyond offering solutions and services to our customers, many of our employees partner with the industry to make a lasting impact for families in communities around the world.

We recently partnered with Mission 500, a non-profit organization that advocates for underserved families in North America, to help two families begin to recover from the devastation from Hurricane Maria that struck the island in September 2017.

It was Resideo’s Industry Affairs Leader Jason Lutz’ second service trip to Puerto Rico and Resideo National Accounts Manager Doug Marshall’s first service trip. Together with approximately 30 professional security industry representatives from ADS Security and Brinks Home Security, among many other companies, the mission team spent five days lending their physical labor along with financial assistance.

“I’m continually humbled by the generosity of our industry. This service trip brings together security industry professionals who care about helping others,” said Lutz. “The Resideo partners are big supporters in their local communities, and we were happy to make an even bigger impact on this trip by uniting with the broader team. The impact we can have will not be forgotten – we’re helping people who literally can’t help themselves, they don’t have a chance to improve their situation, so it is very rewarding to be able to help them as an industry.”

For example, one house was essentially rebuilt from the foundation up by reinforcing unstable flooring, installing new siding and a new roof. The second house received a small addition and a new bathroom that replaced an old outhouse. The team also purchased a new washing machine for one home and another a new refrigerator for the other. They also provided new bedroom doors, bedsheets and carpet to provide improved living conditions for the families.
