A Sneak Peek of What’s Coming at Resideo Live

By Scott Harkins, vice president and general manager, Connected Home, Resideo

Resideo is set to redefine the smart-home industry at an event we’re holding this Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Austin, Texas, at the historic Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater.

More than 750 of our professionals, distributors, partners, local stakeholders and employees will join us as we share our vision to simplify the smart home through our network of more than 110,000 plumbing, HVAC and electrical contractors, and professional security dealers. Every day, these pros meet with homeowners with deep technical knowledge of how to maintain the critical networks of the home: Air, water, energy and security. And these pros have the technical expertise and training that positions them to become the home heroes for homeowners.

I recently celebrated my 31st year in this industry, having started in the late 80s as a sales rep selling security products. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to see many different sides of the business, from my current role overseeing our connected-home efforts to a time when I ran our Americas Security Business. One thing that has been constant in all my years has been change, and that is no different today. As I reflect on my career, I’ve seen a lot of companies come and go, and it instills in me the confidence of Resideo’s heritage of more than 100 years, with controls in more than 150 million homes and more than 6.5 million connected devices.

Interestingly, one of the first automated solutions I sold was a security system with integrated home automation using X-10 power line carrier or home control.  It could even be controlled by a phone … a touch-tone phone. The rapid change of new technologies and the coming and going of new products and companies have made this a dynamic but ultimately very confusing market for consumers. Many of these changes have left homeowners who bought those products frustrated and scratching their heads in confusion.

This week we’re going to roll out some exciting new programs and products to position our customers – the professionals – to be successful in helping consumers protect their homes. Not a bright shiny object coming out of Silicon Valley but the core technologies that help keep them comfortable and safe at home, their largest investment.
