Home Automation Versus Voice Assistants

Voice assistants are all the rave and recent reports from analyst firms show strong growth for the category over the next several years. But the role they play in our homes as they become smarter is up for debate, and Niccolo de Masi, Resideo’s President of Products & Solutions and Chief Innovation Officer, believes they will increasingly be used for entertainment in the home: controlling your television, playing music or answering your child’s homework questions.

He posits that home automation and scheduled “scenes” will be used for more predictable, defined actions in your home, such as closing your garage door if it’s open after 11pm or locking your front door if open for more than an hour. Niccolo elaborates on his view on a recent LinkedIn post entitled The Future of Voice Assistants in the Smart Home. Take a look and leave him a comment with your thoughts.
