Resideo Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Build Affordable, Energy Efficient Homes
The 39th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project constructed 25 homes that deliver enhanced efficiency and comfort
In Austin, Texas’ new Whisper Valley community, energy isn’t just clean — it’s also affordable. With geothermal heat pumps linked to a community energy grid and solar panels on every roof, families benefit from both reduced energy consumption and utility bills. Resideo was proud to sponsor Habitat for Humanity’s 2025 39th Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter Work Project, which brought hundreds of volunteers to the community to construct 25 energy-efficient, affordable homes.
Designed as the first fully geothermal neighborhood in the U.S., Whisper Valley’s geothermal grid and solar panels allow the homes to create their own clean, renewable energy – making them 75-85% more energy-efficient than a standard home.
“Our goal is to make sure that they have a very, very low energy bill at the end of the day,” said Billy Whipple, Chief Impact Officer at Habitat for Humanity’s Austin office.
The community’s 25 brand new three- and four-bedroom homes are equipped with Resideo’s First Alert® fire safety solutions and Honeywell Home smart thermostats, providing users with seamless, simple ways to monitor and control their home.
“Habitat for Humanity’s work creates stability and opportunity for deserving families, and supporting those efforts is something we deeply believe in at Resideo,” said Jeannine Lane, EVP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Resideo. “It’s an honor for our teams to join in the cause and contribute to a project that has a lasting impact on the community.”
Bringing Support and Solutions to Deliver Efficient Communities
Honeywell Home smart thermostats installed in the Whisper Valley community enable enhanced climate control, allowing homeowners to adjust temperatures remotely via the app or set schedules tailored to their personal lifestyle.
Resideo’s Honeywell Home smart thermostats help offer energy and cost savings, with data showing that Honeywell Home thermostat users save on average 22% (heating users) and 17% (cooling users) on their HVAC energy consumption when using the recommended scheduling feature consistently, for annual estimated savings of $2041.
To help alert families to the threat of smoke and fire, First Alert smoke alarms were installed in the homes. The job site was also equipped with First Alert fire extinguishers to help protect the workers and their projects during the construction phase.
“The Carter Work Project is a powerful reminder of what can happen when volunteers, organizations, and families work side by side,” said Lane. “Such forward-thinking design aligns closely with our mission to bring comfort, security, and simplicity to people’s homes by creating smart, connected homes.”
Impact Beyond the Build Site
Through volunteer days, product donations and ongoing support, Resideo is supporting safe and energy efficient housing for families who otherwise might not have access to such opportunities. Resideo’s ongoing support for Habitat for Humanity demonstrates a clear alignment of purpose: making homes safe, comfortable, and efficient.
Honoring a Legacy Through Service
The 2025 Carter Work Project, held Oct. 26-31, marked the first major Carter Work Project build since the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Since the partnership began in 1984, the project has brought together over 108,000 volunteers to work on more than 4,000 homes across 14 countries.
As Habitat for Humanity's work evolves – embracing new models of sustainability, community building, and innovation – Resideo will be part of that journey. By offering solutions that are both accessible and trusted, Resideo aims to help set a new standard for affordable housing.
“Resideo believes every family deserves a home where they can feel safe, protected, and empowered,” Lane added. “Our work with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Work Project reflects that conviction, and we’re honored to contribute to homes that will stand for generations.”
