California Title 24 and Honeywell Home Trade Thermostats

What is Title 24?

Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations (also known as the Energy Code) sets standards for energy efficiency, water reduction, and sustainability in new construction, additions, and alterations for residential and non-residential buildings. This code is periodically updated by the California Energy Commission (CEC). There are numerous thermostat-related standards listed in Title 24, and these standards can be specific to single-family residences, hotels, commercial buildings, and equipment types. There may be exceptions to some requirements.
California Title 24 guidelines are occasionally updated. Check the California Energy Commission webpage https://www.energy.ca.gov/programs-and-topics/programs/building-energy-efficiency-standards for the most up-to-date listing. The Title 24 guidelines highlighted on this page were found in the 2025 Building Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings at that page on 4-8-2026.
